Golens Engine Service might be a VERY BAD company. Look
PLEASE RESPOND, I'm sending this link to the administration at GOLENS ENGINE SERVICE.
I bought a 383 from GOLENS ENGINE SERVICE about a year ago and installed it about 6 months ago. I NEVER got anywhere near 405HP out of it and actually was running right behind my dads STOCK 1995 Z28. I called them around 10 times asking what the problem was and they said it my tuning, my chip, my gears, and basically anything that denied a possible mistake. I burn nice chips and tuned this car to its maximum effiency without a doubt.
Here was the problem.
I never had a reason not to trust these people when I bought the engine, so I just installed it not running any numbers for verification and I should have because the number on the heads turned out to be
14102193 TBI TRUCK heads 1987 200HP swirm port. The cam the installed with 1.6rr's has .525 .525 lift while the maximum lift on these heads is around .427 .434 MAX LIFT. I bent 6 rods under 2000 miles.
I told them this 383 was for my 1991 Z28 TPI!
I just started to rebuild the engine because somebody vandalized my oil pan and I drove the car and ruined the bearings *NOY THIER FAULT* and I'm paying for it and fixing it. Thats when I had a chance to run the numbers on the heads.
I definatly feel this company should refund my money for removal, installation, shipping to and from thier location of the heads and replace them with heads they promise in thier ad that will produce 405HP....... http://www.golensengineservice.com/e....asp?engine=88
CYLINDER HEADS: We employ factory cast iron castings with 2.02" intake valves and 1.60" exhaust valves for improved airflow. The castings receive thermal cleaning, steel shot processing and MPI testing. Casting flash is then removed to eliminate any restrictions in the ports. The heads are resurfaced and new guides installed. A precision performance 3 angle valve job is performed which yields major flow improvements. New valve springs, keepers and seals are installed. The heads are installed on the block using Fel-Pro performance gaskets
I measured the heads on my car and they are 1.94" 1.50. Either I have been lied to, or this was a very bad mixup wich sometimes can happen. I hope they fix this problem I will be posting this everywhere possible and will also be letting everyone know the outcome so YOU over 8000 members can decide if this was a scam or a mistake that will be taken care of by GOLENS ENGINE SERVICE. I'll call them on tuesday and tell you guy's what they say.

I purchased my Motor from this company about while back; Before He was in the Hanscom base as a matter of fact. It was spec'd as a 350ci/350HP engine. I installed it in the fall and then put the car away for that winter.
The next summer I bent 2 valves After about 3200 total miles. I removed the motor, @ trailer'ed the engine to Mass. The heads were re-built and I got the motor back. I re-installed it the following fall and it's been fine ever since. (2 years later)
I did not pay for any of the parts or labor required to repair the engine. I have not had my car on a dyno and do not know if the HP claims are accurate,...... nor have I ever verified the engine specs I was given when I bought the motor. I have been told by more than one person that the Cam that is in the motor is more radical than the one that's listed on my engine's 'build sheet'. I never checked the cam's actual specifications,........ I just drive the car.
I have always had pretty good luck in dealing with Chad and hope that he continues to provide the level of service that I have experienced in the past. Especially since this car will be getting a LOT more use next spring / summer ! (I will need to drive that car regularly for a few months next spring so I can re-build my other Camaro)
I live 10 miles from these guys and have talked to them a few times about building a 383 or 406 and they seem very good,I also know atleast 5 people who have purchased motors from them with no problems(but I haven't yet)I think it's crazy to buy a mail order engine like you have I would want to be able to see people in person if i felt the need for an extra couple hundred

I too have bought an engine from them. I have not verified the parts or anything either. I just looked at it to make sure everything looked ok. I have been told the same thing as John in RI though about my cam. I believed it too because it had a definite lopey idle. It did run fine with the computer though, and it did smooth out a bit when I readjusted the IAC. I only have about 300 miles on the engine so far so I hope everything turns out OK. I really hope that the problem that MATEOZ28 is having is just a mistake. I hope to hear what happens with that whole mess. I only bought an engine from them because of recommendations from people on this board, hopefully they will see that they get a lot of business from here and do something to make it all better. I think that paying to replace the heads with a nice set of afr 190 heads for his trouble would go a long way and make a nice advertisement for them.
You know - When I got originally bought my Engine from these guys,...... I had found them in a regional "Want Add" magazine I was browsing while on the web. When I met Chad to pick up the engine - he didn't even know that he was advertising on the web !
I'll try to find the cam & timing specs I was given for the 350/350 motor as soon as I can find them. It seems as if getting the car timed correctly was more difficult than it should have been. The engine ran better when I set the timing 'by ear' than it did after I had "Professionals" work on the car.
P.S. I expected the "lumpy" idle ,..... I also have a gear drive installed instead of a timing-chain, so the motor has a very distinct sound to it !
I decided on buying from these guys due to thier location, pricing and warranty. It's much easier to drop off the motor than to have it shipped if there's a problem. That is one of the big reasons I bought 'Locally' rather than Mail-order.
MATEOZ28 ,...... I hope that you cut/paste/E-mail this hyper-link to Chad so He knows there are people (customers) watching the progress of your situation.
I emailed chad and waited one day for a response. The next day when I recieved no response I called and talked to him. I asked him to pull my hard file and read me my head casting numbers. He verified I had 193 castings and I told him my problem and vented my EXTREME frustration with this entire situation.
He responded VERY nice and appologized. He told me the person whom I was dealing with has been fired for complaints. I reminded him I called at least 10 times and told him I did speak to him about this and he even told me they were the right heads. He told me he would call me right back and he did.
When he called back and the first thing he said was "We are very very sorry for this mixup, We will send you a new set of Dart 210cc heads and new gaskets, go ahead and keep the heads you have now"
He appoligized several times.
As of now (1 week later)
I have not recieved a call or the heads. I know it takes time and I'm not complaining. As of now they get a thumb up. I'll wait to give them 2 thumbs up until I actually see the heads and how long they take to get here.
Lets see what happens.
I think they owe me a set of TPI gaskets, and header gaskets since they were ruined when I had to pull the heads but hey.....what the hell.
Thanks for the feedback. Keep it coming and I'll send it to them as a reminder of our power as consumers.

Re: Golens Engine Service might be a VERY BAD company. Look
Fabulous!!! My first car was an Aqua Blue-green 4-Mula, as we called it. It was smokin hot cept it had a cruddy square-port 301. Ughhhh! I started with a shift kit, then some 370 gears, a hurst dual gate shifter, headers. It made some noise but never seemed to go anywhere. I bought a partially complete 69 Goat with a rebuilt Ram Air 3. I got a switch out set of motor mounts from some company in Cal and the ole dude squeezed in there. I used the factory exhaust because it was made with a fast flow manifold that was as close to factory headers as you could get. I put a holley 650 single on it and was only able to close the hood with one of those funky
rectangle low-rise air cleaners. Man I had a blast, I hear that that motor was over 375 HP stock. Suddenly people on the "Strip" who had been beating me were being destroyed. It was fast, I won 20 races before retirement 20-0. Good Luck
Re: Golens Engine Service might be a VERY BAD company. Look
So, I bought an Engine from Golen's in 03. I ordered a ford 302/300hp long block.
It required a dip stick that channels through the block. We couldn't find the part. I called ford and he thought it might be a tempest. But we never found it. Called Golens and they had no idea. It was irritating to say the least. but the service till then was great. I never completed the project. I bought it for my 74 bronco which has 140 HP downhill. I had to stop due to a health problem and I stored the engine with my trucks in the shop. It is just as if it were inside. That was almost 6 years ago. I called them recently and they said to hook it up snd do a few minor tweeks with oil and it will run. I ain't quite sure I feel comfortable with that. Anyone had a similar experience? Help me PLEASE!!!!! I am confused
