Single Plane and Stock TA Hood?

Is anybody running a single pane with a stock Trans Am/Firebird hood?

I'm seriously considering the swap but would like to know that someone's running this without hood clearance problems. I'd really like to run the Edelbrock Victor JR. with an Accel T/Body.

I would imagine you would have problems with a stock hood, as there is not alot of room to begin with, with a TPI set up. Then again you might get away with it, depending on the manifold, and T/B choice.

It is very possible that you may have to use a spacer between the T/B and manifold, to allow the throttle linkage to clear, fuel rail standoffs, or the rails themselves, (all depending on what intake you choose). Some manifold, and rail set ups have places where the linkage might contact, while others might not.

I am currently getting ready to do the swap on my car. With a converted Edelbrock Super Victor, and a billet T/B, with a 1" spacer, it sits pretty tall. This is without figuring the height of the air cleaner, also.

Clearance SHOULD not be a problem with my car, as I already have a cowl hood, but I am still a bit worried about it though. No way it would have cleared with a stock hood, on my car, IMO.

Uning a custom adapter and a TB on the side you should be able to clear the hood.

We did that on a 454 BBC turbo with a Holley single plane air-gap EFI intake and a Ford 80mm TB on the side.

The stock IROC hood still closes.

Brutal - I like the Edelbrock Victor Jr. as well. My thought is to use the Victor EFI manifold along with an Accel 1200 cfm throttle body. I wasn't aware that I would also need to use a spacer for clearance. I'm not willing to change out my hood but I am interested to know how this intake works for your application.

HiTech, you may, or may not need a spacer for it. You are talking about the Victor EFI, which is basically a Victor E converted for EFI from Edelbrock, and I used a Super Victor, that was converted with bungs, and rails. The way my fuel rail standoffs are welded on to the manifold, causes a clearance issue with the linkage. A 1" spacer worked for me. IIRC, members zziroc17, and Lo-Tec had used the Pro Ram and had to use a spacer too. Maybe you can get away without one with the Victor EFI.

I also was considering the Victor EFI, until I had one ordered to my local speed shop. I did not like the way the fuel rails attached to the Victor EFI. Very flimsy, IMO. Then factor in the fact extra porting would need to be done to mate it up to the large ports on my heads, made the choice simple for me.

Im waiting for an Accel plug connector, so I can use my IAC plug, with the newer style IAC sensor on the T/B. Once that comes in, I plan on getting it all switched over, then I can let you know how it works out.
