HSR on L98 Dyno Numbers inside

Had my dyno day yesterday and it was a blast as always

recently converted my TPI L98 to Holley Stealth Ram as seen here
http://www.thirdgen.org/techboard/al...ealth-ram.html (My Holley Stealth Ram swap)

i set the fuel pressure to 46psi at WOT and went out to the shop to dyno it on a DynoJet

My motor is a stock internal L98 with just hooker shorty headers and ypipe, gutted cat, and custom 3inch chambered tube catback. Edge racing 2800 stall in the trans, set to lockup at 4500rpms in 3rd gear or about 90 mph or so. 3.42 gears

Here are the numbers

It made 246whp at 5050rpms. carries near 240whp from 4400 to near 5200rpms

torque wasnt able to be captured at peak since trans kept downshifting at rpms below 3800 or so. but when the converter locked it made 284wtq at 4500rpms. my estimations puts me at near 300wtq at somewhere in the 3500-3800 range. torque seems to carry well and looks to be alot flatter than a TPI setup.

sucks my converter doesnt lockup earlier so i can get good numbers everywhere. locked up it gives me 10-15whp lol. i want to see the lowend numbers but oh well. I am very happy with what it has up topend and thats what i was concerned with.

Also very impressed with the air/fuel. it was taken at the tail pipe but they told me it reads near .5 too high so actually numbers seem to be near 12.5 to 1 which is good. i was expecting alot leaner than TPI but my TPI was running rich.

Last year i had TPI on the dyno and made 200whp at 4100rpms and 261wtq at 4500rpms but i had the EST distributor wire disconnected when i adjusted timing the night before. forgot to reconnect it. Ran the car the next week. car ran 14.0 at 94mph with 1.79 60 foot with that wire disconnected. usually goes 13.7x's at 97-98 connected so i'm guessing my old TPI numbers were in the mid 230's whp with alot of torque. if the converter would have locked at 4000rpms, probly would have dyno'd near 210 whp that day. so i'm guessing 235 whp with EST connected and probly at 4200-4400rpms.

All in all stealth ram gained a few ponies but pushed that peak way up in the rpm range where i wanted it. Cant wait to track it to get a real comparison.

Man my car runs right next to yours at 13.7@ 95 with pretty much the exact same mods same size converter 3'' catback no cat and some suspension with those mods mine put down 230/301. This is a good baseline for me because I'm getting ready to put a stealthram on my car.BTW on a 150 shot my car went 12.3@109

awesome.. so it sounds like i had mid higher 230's whp before and picked up a few ponies with the stealth ram, but most importantly moved the powerband up to 5200rpms when TPI was done at 4500.

I'll let you know how i do at the track come next wednesday.

Thats crazy, but I ran better with a ported stock, TPI long runner intake, I ran 13.81's @99mph with a slipping trans and radial tires, so, IDK

A TPI's peak hp is at 4750, and peak torque is at 3650, I mean it is a 305 intake, but made 240 hp and 340 lb ft stock. This was info off the dyno numbers.

man you need to get some tuning done...that way you can select when you tcc locks up and all that...are you still running on a stock tune?

well the tcc doesn't lock up under wide open throttle anyway, but a tune can help, or advance the timing more. I ran 16* base timing, and it made an almost .3 of a second improvement, so try it.

I went 13.63 at 97 in cold air with stock TPI intake, nothing more than 3.42 gears/slicks/2800 stall, full exhaust with shorty headers...not really tuning other than dizzy advance 8-10 degrees base.

Stealth ram swap above with no other mods made 246whp, and ran 13.8's spinning (I think) out the box i believe it was in hot summer time air. Think that day I got it down to 13.6-13.7s. I have to check my old threads I did post alot of updates. Some mild tuning, traction, underdrive pullies, and colder air I went 13.4's at 99-100. Cold air and some drag wheels which were 70lbs lighter than stock, I went 13.2's at 101. 1.6 rockers and colder air yet, DA of 188 ft, it went 12.95 at 103.8 mph. Car flys pretty good for a bolt on car. That final setup was running very lean and still made 254/315 hp/tq in different air conditions than original dyno day. My car with proper tune then and that same air easily would have went 12.8s

Much better than stock TPI was, but I do not have comparisions on aftermarket TPI. I do know my buddy's 89 formula went 13.5-13.6s on street tires/stock converter/3.73 gears with SLP runners/aftermarket base and full exhaust/tune. I was running 13.8-13.9's on street tires with converter/slicks/stock TPI. So aftermarket runners/base may be somewhat close in comparision to HSR on stock L98

It sure does lockup under WOT. Depends on the chip setting. For my dyno runs above you can clearly see the dip in the graph where the converter locks. I forgot to set the mph lower for the TCC control so it locked up earlier.

With it locked you do see alot more power on the dyno, but on the track it doesnt necessarily mean better ET's. I ran best with converter open.

Haha, yeah I had 383 stealth ram last year that made abotu 400whp/380wtq and went mid 11's in the heat. Nitrous 150 shot later, went 10.6's, estimated 520whp. Now got a twin turbo 401 that should go mid high 9's and make mid 700's easily on pump gas or so i hope. Alot changed in 2-3 years
