Well I've been racking my brain all nite...... hit the Net and the flipped through all the catalogues that I have and still need some questions answered!!!
I'm gonna do a HSR swap in the spring and have been trying to get parts collected......... & I'm looking for a thermostat housing for it.......
I know that I can do the Mr. Gasket PN 2661 with a rad hose adapter kit, but I personally think that it looks pieced together.
Has anybody used a CSR Swivel Thermostat Housing PN 170-911(JEGS)
PN CSI 911 (SUMMIT)?????? It has a 1.25" diameter like the TPI units. I'm just not sure if it's long enough to reach the rad hose, as the TPI housing is so long/ rad hose short.......
Any help would be appreciated....... (I've tried to check out all the pics that I could find)
Thanks

Im not sure what paert number I am running but it is a mr gasket one that was on the shelf at the local parts store. it worked perfect for me and all I had to do was get a new hose and then trimit to fit better. I do not like the idea of a housing that swivals. its just one more spot for water to leak from from. I seem to remember something about a housing for a TBI engine or something. I could be wrong since it has been a few years now

I also just grabbed a mr. gasket piece. I think I got a rad hose for a TBI car. works good.
Thanks everybody for the help....... Great responses!!!!!!
I love 3rd gen.org for all the help that you can find here... I don't know what I would do without it

I found an adjustable aluminum t-stat housing on ebay for about $18. It rotates 360' and has an o-ring seal. It's made for 1 1/2" hose but my stock 1 1/4" upper fit with a little effort. Just point it in the right direction and bolt it down. One note- the lower port on the throttle body where the coolant flows through had to be cut off. I had bypassed it anyway so it didn't matter to me. Cheap, easy, looks good.
i wouldnt get the swivel housings, or the Oring type sealing ones, im throwing in a HSR for my new HSR383 and im goin wit the mrgasket one but it will only look peiced together if u do it the cheap way, u could make it look niece with a stainless pipe and rubber ends etc.
the reason i say dont get the swivel housings/Oring housings is that my bro just stuck one on his 68vette with a 509 merlin and right off the bat is started leaking around the swivel and the Oring, he even used a paper gasket with the Oring and it helped but it still leaked. he swaped it out for a non swivel and it hasnt leaked since this was a month ago when he finished the swap, to me it just seems like another peice or part that will leak or fail and if u bust a leak on the road and overheat will kill your motor.
i kno the mrgasket is an Oring base seal but i will be putting a paper thick felpro gasket as well. just my .02

I used a t-stat housing off of a 4.3 vortec(had it laying around) and tbi upper hose. stay away from the o-ring it will cause you trouble down the road.
Thanks guys....... I like the Vortech t-stat idea....... if my Mr gasket unit doesn't work well I know what I'll be lookin for.......... I don't think we have carquest up here

I would like to know about the thermostat thousing from CARQUEST PN# W1595. Can somebody give me a cross reference pn# so i can get the thermostat housing thru Napa. I am having nothing but headaches with the o-ring chrome style waternecks, both Ive tried still leak! Much appreciated.
my o ring seal has been fine, but i used rtv all over it too to be safe
I had used the CSI swivel one when I did my swap a few years ago. It leaked after about 6 months. So I completely disassembled it (it was a unit with a screw in rad hose fitting) and rtv'd where the swivel portion mated to the bolted down housing, used a paper gasket and some GM gasket maker and it never again leaked. The GM silicone is AWESOME stuff but pricey. (I only used it because I got a bunch cheap while I worked for GM).
