what EFI systems that are streetable

i plan on putting some "new life" into my 88 come winter, and i plan on putting out around 450 hp and 500 tq at the crank. now i want to stick with efi, but dont wanna use the stock tpi setup, because its highly restrictive and if im going to spend money porting it out, i would rather use that money on a new system. in Pennsylvania our emissions are pretty strict and we have the loudness, sniffer, and visual parts in our emissions check. what setups are out there that are streetable for our 3ed gens?

Re: what EFI systems that are streetable

streetable is not the same thing as emmissions legal.
there are only a handful of aftermarket intake setups and probably the only one with EGR is the SLP T-Ram.
You might be stuck with the tpi and just get ported runners and a new base.

Re: what EFI systems that are streetable

X2 on the miniram. Personally, if you are going to have to pass emissions every year, I would go with a highly modified TPI setup. The one thing you always have to worry about with any Non-stock system, is an overzelous inspector. Not a problem here in az where the A.I.R. system and egr just have to look like it works, but I have heard some real horror stories about PA and NY inspections.
Really, with a set of siamesed runners, ported plenum and High-flow base (Plus the obligatory 58mm throttle body) You should be fine to reach your horsepower goals. Most of that stuff can be found for realatively cheap on the classified boards.
My 2c.
Good luck!

No problem! TPI really is a great system if you arent looking for more than 500 hp (Naturally-aspirated). I intend to keep the TPI setup on my Iroc.
Good luck!

Re: what EFI systems that are streetable

Hmmm, I thought that the stealth ram and minram came with EGR provisions. TPIS makes bigger runners and also have a larger base. Have you heard of F.I.R.S.T. intake? It is similiar to TPI but designed properly. It basically TPI on steroids. The intake flows 300 cfm stock and can be ported a lot. Member BadSS has it with great posts about its performance if you search posts under his name. It is emissions legal with EGR. Check it out. I'm thinking about using this for my 350 engine build.

Scroll down to bottom of page for pictures comparing stock vs FIRST runners.
