Re: Single Plane MPFI throttle body question

This setup requires a ton of AE for sure and PE enabled to help feed the fueling this thing wants.

Re: Single Plane MPFI throttle body question

I bet, a quick crack of the throttle on that beast should inject soo much air, AE tuning is a must!

Re: Single Plane MPFI throttle body question

HAHAHA, I have just a few questions for all you guys.

1) Looking at the SP FI manifolds, whats the average cost you guys are into?

2) I am guessing with all of them you have to get some type of aftermarket fuel rails and cant use stock TPI ones? And I am guessing you need some kind of fuel rail fitting adapters to fit your stock lines to the aftermarket rails?

3) What do you do about sensors with the carb style TB? Do they come with IAC/TPS and places to temp sensors, MAP...etc?

Re: Single Plane MPFI throttle body question

My single plane setup was 411 bucks from summit racing. Includes manifold and rails. Victor E EFI setup

Then i got a intake elbow for use with LS1 throttlebody. That 225 plus 50 for stock LS1 throttlebody and then 20 for some used sensors (IAC/TPS)

you would need rail fittings, lines and external regulator.
That is gonna vary. My fuel system ran me close to 1800 bucks total from pumps to lines to fittings, regulator/filter, and wiring. But most setups will NOT need to do what i did
Most regulators are like 100-140 bucks or so, some fittings are like 20-40 bucks. You'll probly want to connect your hard lines to the rails just like the Holley stealth ram swap. So you'll have about 100 bucks or so in lines/fittings to adapt to the Edelbrock Rails (or whatever system you use). Then have to make the fuel crossover for the regulator and thats about it.

MPFI style throttlebody like in this thread is another way to go. Eliminates the intake elbow and seems to be a better setup

All in all, the cost isnt much more than that of a stealth ram swap..perhaps the same. I had about 900 in my HSR swap including throttlebody/HSR/Rails/Lines. Singleplane can be done for similar cost if not less, the manifold system is cheaper than HSR manifold system. The throttlebody is gonna be the difference maker. If you go MPFI you just get that, the sensors and do the wiring. If you go LS1 style throttlebody and intake elbow, that can add up, 225 for elbow plus 300+ for 85-90mm throttlebody

Why did you like the Vic Jr. Intake over all the other possible ones? I like the Vic Jr. one too...I also like the ACCEL DFI version a lot. I imagine it may have had more hood clearance for your hood huh? I have a clearance issue with my Caprice as well.

How do you like your AFR's and what head combination would you go with "IF" you went Supercharged later? Also...what pistons did you use?

Thanks,

JB

I'd go with the 195cc again for the FI or 210s at most but I wanted more mid-range torque to move my truck rather than another 10hp up top. But it also depends on how much boost and how you use it as well....if this was a drag truck with 18 psi, 210cc heads would be the winner.

I don't have clearance problems...this is in a truck with a cowl so...clearance was never an issue.

Pistons are Probe forged.

Cool man...just curious. I have been told many time to get a single plane Intake and a set of 200 cc heads for my Caprice...like you I want TQ as well. When a vehicle is as big as a truck or a Caprice for that matter...I am willing to trade HP for TQ anyday. TQ is what will get a big mass moving better.

I on the other had wouldn't be pushing as much boost...and since my car will be street driven I also feel that I would likely use 195 cc heads as well.

You got a lot of cylinder head with those AFR's though didn't ya? Meaning that for the cost... they are a fully machined head with CNC Chambers and intake/exhaust ports right? That's AFR's thing...and I really think that theya re the best bang for the buck heads out there. I like Trick Flow and Dart and World...but AFR's heads have always been my favorite.

Yes. AFRs are the best bang for the buck in my opinion. The decks on these heads are 3/4" thick. So, you can plane them, etc if you need them.

Re: Single Plane MPFI throttle body question

Just some quick updates, fueling is getting good now....however, with this setup, I needed the PE enabled compared to the stealthram. Also, I have add about 175% of AE fueling and had to take about 50% of VE fueling out down low so....definitely a new ball park when it comes to feeding this thing with fuel.

Re: Single Plane MPFI throttle body question

Here is a picture of my Accel single plane with Edelbrock elbow and LS2 throttle body. It's controlled by a "411 PCM" The carb pad was milled down 1 1/8" to accommodate the low hood clearance of the 1980 Corvette. I'm also running AFR heads.
