Next summer when my t5 blows up, I will be dealing with you guys. I was going to swap in a t56, but i'd like to keep the t5. If the trans is severely damaged, can you still take it as a core? I have the feeling it will be. Thanks

tompumped,
What we look for in a Core are the following:

1.) Core Exchanged in must be from a 1988-92 Camaro/Firebird V8 with T-5 5 Speed Transmission.

2.) Core Exchanged in cannot have a "Cracked/Broke" Case.

3.) Output Shaft Pilot Surface cannot be "Pitted" where the Input Shaft and Output Shaft come together.

The only way to know if the Output Shaft is "Pitted" is by removing the Input Shaft and Bearing Retainer from the front of the Transmission. Once the Input Shaft is removed, you can visibly see the Pilot Surface of the Output Shaft. This surface is where the 15 Individual Needle Bearings ride. If you take two fingers and rub around the outside surface of this Pilot Area, it should be smooth like a crankshaft journal. If it is rough and/or pitted, the Output Shaft will need to be reconditioned before using again. The cost to do this is $100.00, which is what we charge if the Output Shaft is "bad" in the Core Exchanged in.

If you have any questions/concerns please don't hesitate to contact us Toll Free.

Thanks,
Tony

TraviZ,

No, but we do "Face-Plated" T-56 6 Speed Transmissions. This is where we remove the Synchronizer/Blocking Rings and "Modify" the Side of the Gears to install Face-Plates. This does not make the Transmission "Clutchless", but does help in getting the Transmission to shift well at RPM's higher than 7,000. It can get quite expensive but will allow the transmission to shift at higher RPM's, utilizing the Clutch, but not needing as much Disengagement as a Synchronized Transmission.
Thanks,
Tony
