83 Targa Top on Ebay

http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eB...tem=1873275728
The auction says it may be one of the original Simon & Simon cars. This would definately make a really great restoration project.

Anyway, I know that some people here were chatting about targas before, so I thought I'd post this.

I've had dreams about that before. I'd pick it up for a show car. That would be pretty sweet.

Hey Z, with some center caps, I never thought that those wheels would look that good on the car. I still like my fac 16's, but those are sharp.

I got rid of those as soon as I could afford it. Came on the car when I bought it.

Looks like this now,

All in all, it looks damn good. Needs paint, but the body looks sound. Top was done right, it seems... wonder if he's gonna sell it for whatever the person bid on it. It didn't reach the reserve. I'm kinda hoping he won't accept the bid, so I can convince him to sell it to me.

Here's the one real issue I saw: the bumper.

It's definately not a Simon and Simon car. That car is not a Z28 like in the show.

I wouldn't necessarily say that. The ad said it was used for close-up shots. If they did close-up shots of the actors, you'd never know the difference between a Z28 and a sport coupe.

i've been looking at the top from the photos that tpi posted. could they have possibly started pins late in the 83 production run? or would have been a custom job?

GM never did this. It's aftermarket. It's still very intriguing though.

hmm

lets look at the facts that we have.

We know or at least assume that GM NERVER made these cars.

We Know there were and still are kits to do this to the cars.

We know there are some of these cars around.

We know there were model cars made with targa tops.

Im gonna say that it may have been a dealer option somewhere for some reason. And that the toys were made from those cars.

I like the look of these cars, but the top needs to be glass like a ttop in my opinion.

All in all, good restoration project, just not for me

Glass would look awesome... painted to match the body is even better, in my opinion. Like the yellow corvette that's always sitting in the parking lot of the grocery stoor by my house... ::drool:: :hail:

Dealers will make anything an option. Just takes cash. good examples r the old camaros mustangs and the like with the custom colour paint jobs and such. if it was done at the dealership u will find the mods on the window sticker. its made some fairly expensive colectables. but with no documentation it means jack.
