BFG scorcher TA's

I saw them today at the tire store they look like they would grip really good and have a pretty nice look to them but I was wondering what you guys would say has to be the best gripping tire that is ok in the rain. If I got these BFG's I would get them with the red on the tire I think.

well, it depends on the rim....since they only offer those tires in mostly import sizes you should do what you like.

ask redraif though as i believe she has the ones with red stripes...

i definately wouldn't race in them, but i'm sure they are fine for the street.

Yeah I'm almost positive they don't make them in our sizes, ie 245/50-16. But they seem more for show than anything....

Yes, but not in any size that's going to give you a 26" height and a respectable width. I'm not sure what size raif's are, but I don't think they're as large as stock.

Anyway... on to my opinion... I think they're silly, but I would because they serve absolutely no purpose except to scream, "LOOK AT ME!" which isn't my style.

Sizes are kind of limited...Redraif's are 245/45R17s, which was as wide as they came when she got them. They now make 255s, but for some reason haven't made anything larger. They seem to grip very well, probably better than the Comp TAs on my SS, and wet weather traction is very good. You can get the Scorcher tread design in an all black tire now, BTW...I was surprised to hear about it, but apparently they got a lot of requests. Honestly, I'm surprised they still make Scorchers at all, because I rarely see them anywhere except in BFG ads. Even at the larger import shows (Nopi, etc), there are rarely more than 1 or 2 other cars with Scorchers.

yup those scorcher tires are for ricers and I think they look gay, you might get away with it if your a chic but if i saw a guy that had those on this car I would laugh.
I've got the Nitto drag radials on mine and they're suppossed to be ok in the rain. Function over form.

wouldn't that be contradicting to go with all black ones?

the whole point of those tires was to have the colors.

while i'm sure they grip decent....there is no way they can compare to any of the other pictured above which are in the same price range.

those tires are for show....unless you like the color like redraif i would pass. getting all black defeats the purpose.

but that's just me....do what you like.

Yes but those tires arn't made just so you can have the color, they are made to be a long lasting performance tire.

Can't go wrong with bridgestone, Ferrari uses them so they must be good.

i've never heard of anyone wether personal or in an article refer to the scorchers as a true "performance" tire.

but, if that's the case then by all means try them out.

I'm not going to try to weigh the performance benefits of one tire over another, but I have been pretty impressed with them in that regard. A BFG rep originally told me about the black Scorchers, and I thought the same thing...why would you want a black Scorcher when EVERY other performance tire is black?...but apparently enough people requested it, because they're now making them. Either way, I can't even consider running them myself (sizes aren't wide enough).

My attraction to the tire was initailly because of the colored stripe, but I would have never put them on if they had not been a quality tire. Before I got them I read that they were based on the compTA which is a good performance tire...

I drive this car everyday and I need something that will handle in what ever conditions I happen to come across. I have had them since fall of 2000 and I have been very impressed. I still have enought tread to last probably another 6 monthes to a year. My only problem with them has been bad valve stems. But that is totally unrealated to the actual tire.

Eventhough the car is a 2.8, I drive it hard. The backend has never come loose on me, except when I really work hard to do it. I even plan to Autocross on them. I have driven in some really bad storms before and have never lost it with these tires.

No they do not offer alot size wise, but again for a street driven car, I have the perfect size for me. Going from stock 15s to 17s I expected to have my speedometer to end up wrong, but its not. There is only minor scrubbing in the front wheel well. I think the front tire size is perfect. The rears I would not mind widening a touch.
