Car: Drop Top Z Engine: 383 LT1 Big Turbo Transmission: Th400 Axle/Gears: moser 9inch w/3.00 | Its not that It ISNT PAINTABLE but if 99% of the people who are gona buy em are gona paint em anyways. Im just gona get already died resins gray. This way All you need to do is scuff/paint it.
If they want the CF look then Im gona have to get a good clear resin/epoxy final coat so its a nice looking piece. |

| I know this sounds kind of late but I just found this post.
I want one to replace the stock 91-92 Z28 hoods so I can keep my blisters.
I think it will get painted, I don't care what the under side looks like.
It doesn't even have to be C\F but I've never found a fiberglass one that I can put the blisters on.
for me its a just weight thing for me and I don't want a cowl.
they have been done to death

Car: 1989 RS Camaro Engine: LT1 Transmission: T56 | For most people it has nothing to do with the look. It is all about the weight and strength of the material. If you look at an indy car practically the whole body is carbon fibre. Its a huge weight difference mainly. But if u do decide on CF stuff, be ready to fork over some big dough. I put a CF front fender on my bike and it alone was $200. Just remember its a lot of money. If i could find one i'd definitely buy it, preferably i'd want an ASCD SS Carbon Fibre hood.

Car: 87TA 87Formula 97TA 92K1500Blazer | no, the reason to go composite/frp is weight.
The reason to go carbon fiber is that it's the most ridgid of the commonly available frp's (most are very flexible compared to the metals that they're replacing).
The fact is that if you really wanted rigid steel or aluminum is still better per weight, but you could not build a part that's as strong at the same weight.
(go back and read the thread... TPI383 and I already discussed all this) |

Car: 86 Iroc-Z28 Engine: 350 Transmission: 700r4 | I'm still in Chris. Just did not want to keep emailing you about this. I'll also get the rough sizes, of my sway bars so that you might be able to powder coat them. Ever get that larger oven? later |

Car: 86 Iroc-Z28 Engine: 350 Transmission: 700r4 | Just the length from wheel to wheel. I just got home from work and measured. I got about 48" from wheel to wheel, so maybe 50" and roughly 12" from front to back. This is the front sway bar. The way my ca is right now and how i have stuff under it, i can not get to the rear sway bar, but i would imagine it is the same size, if not smaller. Any help 83 Crossfire TA would be cool. Any time is good enough, i would still have to take them off and send them to TPI383 anyway. Thanks |

Car: 87TA 87Formula 97TA 92K1500Blazer | Well, they vary a bit (I've got 2 seats of 36's and then an assortment down to 32mm fronts with matching rears), but the largest is 45.25"x15.5"x about 6"(they're 3 dimensional in their bends). The rear bars fit entirely 'in' the front bars (I've got them hanging that way on the wall) and are about 41"x14x3" (I'm guessing at the depth, it's more up to how you set them...) |

| one thing about the carbon fibre driveshafts though, is that their lifespan is shorter than anything else. I"ve actually emailed companies aobut this,.. see, what happens is, it will infact increase torque, cuz it's so light & easy to turn, BUT, it will eventually either brake at the joining points(where the metal is), OR.. it will eventually kind of unravel, like a roap, causing a massive loss in power, and cleaning the undercarrage of your car, :-D. |

Car: too many ... | Interesting to see this post back from the dead. Ironic because a few days ago my club prez called up and asked if I was interested in learning how to make CF parts. A bunch of guys from the club are gonna get together and chip in for all the parts we need, around $2k I think. But after we get the right equipment I'll get to practice whenever I want. My first project will be a hood, stock replica of a 89 RS. When I get good (who knows how long that will take) I want to make a set of doors that will work with the power glass windows intended for street use.

Car: 1993 Toyota Supra Engine: Inline 6 Transmission: 6 Speed Axle/Gears: 3.13 | That would be awesome to have carbon fiber doors, i bet it would probably be extremely hard to make those, considering its not even that easy to make a hood. Carbon fiber doors for our cars would drop off like 100lbs. |

| anyone wanna mold me a carbon fibre ram air hood for my 88 trans am, plz?
What about us TA owners?... you think you could so something about same price for us after you get done w/ the camaro stuff TPI? But even if you could, or would, i'd only want ram air hood... :-/ (very very picky)
Question real quick... i thought carbon fibre, when being heated, had to be pressurized as well... i was watching this thing on how they make mclarens, which are made out of CF, and.. they said they heat them to over like 2 grand F or somthing, & a few hundred lbs of pressure, and they just cook them for hrs...
Or.. was i just out of it that day?

Car: 1987 Camaro Z28 Engine: 350 swap | I tried to find one for my car after seeing some pics of one with it. My car is black and in my opinion carbon fiber looks best on black if your not gonna paint it. I want the weight reduction and I like the look. But the bad thing is the only place I found one online, which I cant remember where sorry, it was over $1,000 for it. And they tend to have issues with the clear coming off if not painted. So if you get one and dont paint it you should prolly take it somewhere and get a few coats of clear sprayed on.
