Yes, but only if I can see the car the whole time and I take my faceplate with me. I have an alarm too and I arm that.

No. Most places here have signs that say:

"No Shoes, No Shirt, No Service"

So that mean I have to leave my Tank-Top on.

I couldn't imagine going for a coast cruise with my tops not off. . .

Recently i installed a clifford alarm system. . .Intelliguard 8000 or soemthing like that. Anyway, the kit comes with a dual proximity sensor. . .In effect, it guards the interior of the car from people sticking thier arms in. If you put your arm in it gives a warning 'chip'. . .any longer and it sets off the full alarm.

It's never been set off. . . of course I'd hate to see what happens to the first guy who does.

and for additional insurance, i always place all the valuables in the center console. . .right next to the zone alarm.

Yeah, I do. Had nearly of grand of stuff ripped off when I've had them off, too. Amp, video camera, radar detector, and little hand held radios. Seperate incidents for most of them.

i have a vert and i always leave my top down wherever i go. unless i'm out of my own town. my town is small enough to not have to worry about that sort of thing ever, but i obviously do try to keep my more valuable things out of site but it has yet to be a problem in over 2 years that i've had it

Yep, I leave the t-tops off all the time. Sometimes for days at a time. I think my t-top off record was like... 2 weeks.

When I go in a store, there are a couple things I make sure of. My car is usually pretty clean inside, and I make sure there isn't anything that anyone would steal easilly. I leave the windows rolled up, and I set my alarm. If anyone sticks thier hand in the car, the alarm will go off (Motion sensor).

NO!

After having had two of my three f-bodies stolen(my '83 Z28 in 1986, and this Formula after having it only one week in 1987, each with the tops ON), you can imagine my paranoia when it comes to leaving my car alone with the tops off, lol. Never, never, never--not even out in front of my own house!!!

True, that was the '80s when these cars were the "hottest" in every sense of the word. But now many are becoming collectibles and classics, and parts are getting hard to find, so it's likely that they could become targets again.

Even now when I leave my car in a parking lot, I scan the lot and glance back at the car a few times before I go into a store, lol. I figure that if someone's already eyed the car, they're watching me. And if they're watching me, they know I'm watching my car, lol.

come on people ! what are we worried about here . . .

are we worried that someone might could flick a cigarette in our cars and burn a hole or worse yet start a fire ?

are we worried that same someone might yank out our stereo systems while we are satisfying our hunger pangs ?

--or--

are we worried that somone might steal our car ?

in any case, USE COMMON SENSE. If you find yourself questioning whether you should leave the tops off. . . DONT

My car will probably have t-tops off most of the time over the summer since I get the garage and I have a second car for a daily driver. I'm gonna park the Camaro in the garage with the tops off and if its nice enough to drive it, I'll drive it. If its not t-top weather, the IROC stays

That I've done, lol, and I don't recommend it. It's A GARAGE, so the interior got very dirty very quickly by leaving the tops off. I'll never do that again either.

I leave mine off.

I don't think many people walk around looking for cars that are easy to steal, but not hard ones. If they want it, they are gonna take it. Regardless.

I can understand the high dollar stereo issue though. Mine is very modest, no real target for a theif.

Sometimes it doesn't matter if they are left on or not.

This just happened...car left outside at night.

Passenger side window was shattered to allow access to steal T-Tops. So now I needed T-Tops AND new window. My guess is the dumb thieves now have tops that don't fit their POS car anyway...I have the C&C tops.

It wasn't easy finding some replacements. Just got them this week and had a window put in too.

I worry about theft of tops, stereo AND car.

None of the jerkoffs around here are smart enought to figure out how to steal my car. I cant count the number of times i've come out of school or the store or even a club and find spit or dip of snuff something like that. Found a carrot one time to, dont know what was up with that. Egged once and a key scatch from finder to finder another time. Unless you drive a jacked up truck with super swampers somethings gonna happen.

Since we gut a Police Substation on school grounds and everything i think its safe, then there is truancy also, on the toehr side of campus.

Are you nucking futs?!? Leaving the tops out all day at school?!? Add to that you don't seem to exactly get along with everyone from what you say around your area. (People threatening this or that to your car, etc...)

That gets a great big

I do, but I'm always paranoid about doing it. I've never had anything stolen (untill now there was nothing worth taking) but the previous owner had it stolen three times... and he never took the tops off. In the 20 years he had my '83 Z28, he took them off probably less than 10 times, so he says. Still stolen three times.

I know that if anyone really wants in that badly, they can get in... but I'm paranoid about leaving the tops off (unless I'm at home) because its just like putting a "steal me" sign on it.

Ive gone to work at a huge grocery store, and left the car outside for 8 hours with no tops on it, and 5 subs in the trunk. If i drive somewhere, and i have the tops off, they stay off. I generally dont even take them with me when i take them off, unless im going a good distance from home.

Its been my experience that people only have problems here if they have problems with people to begin with. That, or if they advertise their sh<x>it like a bunch of idiots. Like i said, i had a huge stereo in mine, and none of it was hidden. Three of the subs were visible from the windows, they were right behind the back seats. I never blasted it pulling in to parking lots, and i never had a problem. I lef tthat damn car in the parking lot of a 12 hour concert, with people tailgating all around it, never got touched.

In retrospect, an idiot coworker of mine has a Grand am (with a standard closed trunk, mind you) and two subs in it, he jams his **** everywhere he goes, and his car has ALREADY been broken in to once, even though you cant even see his stereo.

The locks DO help. When my car was recovered that night, along with the thieves, it still had the t-tops. They tried to get them off, and screwed up one of the locks in the process, but they didn't get them off. So those locks REALLY help. :hail:

When I had t tops on my old firebird I left em off in parking lots sometimes. It really depended where I was going. High pedestrian traffic areas, or good neighborhoods wouldnt be a problem. I did however lock the doors everytime I leave it and take my faceplate with me. Ive got a faceplate stolen already and my previous cutlass was stolen at the registry for *** sakes. I say be careful where you leave your tops off, NEVER leave your faceplate on OR your subs visable. Your asking for trouble. Im gonna have to get a new lock for the drivers side cuz it doesnt unlock with the key on the new cutlass. Ive gotta get in on the pass. side. Im glad its got the bench seat and no console. Or else It would be a PITA.

I do sometimes on a short stop or if I can see the car. There isn't anything too special about my car, I never have anything inside...or not anything of too much value...I'll take my registration and insurance card out though. I think sometimes people get tripped out that a car is left open like that, that they don't want anything to do with it and leave it alone. They may think that since its been left like that someone is close by watching it. If someone wants my car or something in it bad enough they'll get it, they're not that hard to break into. Also if my car were to get stolen they might come right back and drop it off the way its running at the moment =/

Microwave and prox. alarm sensors (tuned properly) are the best solution if you don't mind risk.
Once I saw a car full of teenage girls a dump a grande cup of pop (soda) into a convt as they drove by. Made me think twice.

I now always LOCK the ttops and fully arm my alarm whenever the car is out of my effective range.
The question is how much do you love your car.

wow i am glad i live in a small town also

i generaly leave the tops off if i go somewhere if they are already off. Depending on what lot i park in at school i can leave them off to, because the senior lot is over looked by the whole school and i trust the people in there, but if i end up in teh junior lot its another story, its behind the school where no one can watch and stuff get stolen frequently.

i leave them off all day at work also during the summer 8 am till 6pm but that is because it is a smaller warehouse and only a hand full of people work there and park in thne parking lot, not hte mention the loading dock doors are open and i can watch it all day.

if i go to walmart or someplace like that were i am only going to be there for a short time i just make sure i put the windows up and lock the doors. havnt had any problems yet

when i had my 71 cutlass convertible i used to leave the top down everywhere no matter how long i was oging to be, never had nay problems with that either.
