my hood and roof are really faded and have very big circle scratches. i used a very mild rubbing compound that seemed to work a little, brought back the color, my question is (i dont know what kind of paint it is, but its been repainted) can i damage the paint too much by using a more abrasive compound, or would it help it? i dont have an orbital buffer either, im just using hand power. what can/should i do beside a new paint job?

when you buffed it the first time did the color come off on the pad and what brand/product line/name was the compound you used?

yeah some color came off, but not a huge amount. i used Turtle wax mild rubbing compound.. i guess there are 3 types, i used the lowest one.

ok that means ur workin with single stage paint try to find 3m perferct it 3 rubbing compound i really like it bout $13 for a quart of it avaible at any auto body store if that dosent work try the perferct it 3 extra cut rubbing compound but always work with the finest possible and if that dosent work go 1 more aggressive that way u dont cause work for your self


after that go and use some finnesse finishg compound then a coat or swirl free polish wax it and call it a day

PLEASE dont use turtle wax rubbing compound again!!! Try looking at your local parts store for Meguiars deep crystal system. Its a 3-step process that does wonders, and wont scratch the crap out of you paint. The 3m stuff as mentioned earlier works pretty good too.

i tried the meguires but this paint NEEDS a compound. i took it to a guy who works for a paint shop and he reccomended the turtle wax compound.. it brought back the roof to a shine, but the hood is really bad, deep deep scratches.

i think i might break down and buy an orbital buffer to help out this kills my shoulders
