Will a wax/buff make a car with crappy paint job look ok?

Most of the car is good except for the top behind the t-tops, on the top of rear fenders, rear bumper is all faded to chalky grey color on top, and spoiler's looks like crap with the paint bubbling off. I might actually get the spoiler painted for the time being but.....

When I wash the car, even with it's crappy paint job, it looks 100 times better and the white/faded spots are almost black again.

So can a wax job, make it look decent for a while if I keep it up? I live in an apt complex and go to school and a nice paint is about a year away.

"You can't polish a turd" comes to mind. I know because mine was one until new paint.

Honestly, it depends on how far the paint is gone. Try a small spot with wax to see if it comes back.
