Have a question and know its an odd one but has anyone done or know someone who has done the K1 Styling Evoluzione rebody. Wanted to know if the kit is made well or just looks nice in a picture. Made well? Also the fitting of the parts and headache to put together , pictures of it are here and fits 82-92 Camaros/firebirds
There has been lots and lots of discussion on the Evo bodies. I am sure if you find a search, you will pull up many posts that could answer your question well.
The K1 Evo kits are no longer produced and the US distributor has apparently gone out of business. I personally love the Evo kits, I think they look great and they are based on a good platform. I saved up for years but by the time I had the $$ to buy a kit, they were all gone. If I could find a kit today I would still buy one. That link you posted was great! Finally I get to see a K1 Evo with the right style of wheels that match the car. The only thing missing from that car is the right stance. The fender gap kills the look. Thanks for the link!!

I agree! I had always hoped to get a kit for another f-body down the road... Thanks for the link! I was posting a thread wanting more pics of evos a while back!

As far as I know I am the only active member that owns one.
Thje first EVO needs a lot of body work due to low spots and high spots and one side of the cars molds not matching the other. The EVO that i saw had much beter glass but with any kit car you can expect to do a good bit of body work if your picky. But no matter what in the end it's worth it.
Here's the only pick I have until I get the interior back in it so I can get it out of the garage.
Asthetic opinions aside, I think it has a lot to do with the talent of the person installing it. I saw an EVO I kit on a car some years ago and it was just a complete abomination. Silicone adhesive holding panels on, lousy fitment all around, wavey fiberglass, etc. It was a complete turd. However, if somebody took the time to put it together right and repair the shortcomings, it may have left me with a different opinion.
I think that kit kills the best part of these cars, the sharp body lines. That EVO is kinda cool because it is different but I just think a rebody should be done to a car that needs it. Not to the sexxiest car ever built.

I could not agree more! That is so true of all body work and paint jobs! I don't car how shiney a paint job is, if the body work looks like you sanded it with a rock, you should be hit with one! This rock sanding phenomenon and mostly be seen on the importricer breed!
Funniest thing I ever saw/heard at a show involving an f-body! This guy came over to me...saw we were in the same class. Then he went on to say how unfair that was for me. I did not have 1/2 his mods, as wild of a paint job, or stereo sys! I was like do what? I played along and just let him dig a bigger hole for himself... He went on to tell me that shaving my door handles was going to make the doors sag? DERH HUH? Oh and they always cahnged the stereo system classes when ever he showed up cause his was so superior to everyone elses! Boy I could not wait to see his work of art.
He drags me to the car. Its a Camaro The paint job is a dated 80s looking style. The body work is wavey...on stock panels mind you! yes the door jams are done. But it look like the guy painted the car in a sandstorm. I mean sand paper texture! There was a jeep there the painter painted...same thing! He goes on to tell me he spend 8000.00 on the paint! And this was a good friend discount! I was trying not to laugh. The stereo...it was a wall where the back seats used to be. I was like ok...then he opend the truck and I saw the back...plywood! Yes plywood! I was in pain trying not to laugh. Then his engine....oh his engine...he swapped in 305...dirty unpainted, and it still had the junkyard grease pen marks all over it. Unbelievable! I stuck my head behine my camera then and distracted my pending laughter with pics. Man I wish I had them on CD...another set of negatives i need to have converted over...though my stepfathers scanner is pretty good! maybe they are scan worthy!
I like the kit car, but I don't like the kit car. I mean, it looks nice and all.. but it just feels like they've turned an american beauty into an import/ricemobile.

You should have laughed in his face. To give you all that BS and then have a car like that.. He deserved whatever he got.

It was a shame he and I ended up in different classes...they split Birds and Maros...would have loved to show him up!
Yes I agree never destroy a good third gen but if you have one that is on it's way out with rust, starting making those changes that you have always dreamed of. Custimze everything you ever thought of. What's the worst that could happen, you mess up something that was going to be dead in the near future anyways.
Beside the evo in the garage sits my premo 92 Z28 with no thoughts of changing anything. Well maybe some bolt ons and a cam swap and a little this and a little that just to up the hp.
That was my plan...find a 3rd gen with a kacked up rear quaters that would require a new skin anyway...use some old good for nothing fenders & doors... there you go!
And Yes the main reason i was thinking of doing this is i have a T top Z28 that is pretty much on the way to the junkyard. Have a nice 327 out a 60's Corvette with a 4sp trans and thought itd be fun to have something no one could quite figure out what it was. But be fast and sound mean enough to scare people as it confuses. I also have a 91 RS and a 92 Firebird alone with a 69 Camaro so im a f body nut and do respece the cars for what they are. For everyone who is interested in the kits tho you cant buy them directly FROM the US anymore but they still sell them and are more than happy to ship them to you for about the same prices as the US dealers were charging. Also alot of hotrod and kitcar shops can install the kit and mold it all in if your into letting someone else do it. Personally alittle fiberglass and filler is the easiest and best way to go and just take your time sanding and checking yourself. But anyway heres the info if anyone wants to order one you can contact this guy. Both the Evo 1 and Evo 2 kits are still in production and they are still selling either one along with parts for each one

i have probably the last evo 2 gts kit i bought it late last year and its just sittin here waiting for me to get to it i might sell it if some one would come pick it up and had the right amount of money!
i think they look great, but it seems all the ones i have seen have wheels that just do not appeal to me. the link was cool, he just needed to lower it and remove the spoiler. i think these are excellent alternatives to the dated look of the third gen. i love thirdgens, but i would in no way say they are the best looking cars out there, and many imporvments could be made. i personally think the last generation rx7 was what the 4th gen should have looked like. curvey and beautiful.

Nice. I'm sure I'd forget to actively follow but I'd like to see the progress on that one.
The mid-engine Northstar wouldn't be impossible, just do away with the back seats, build a firewall with a vertical window right behind the front seats, install a fuel cell in the front, then graft in a Fiero cradle with Northstar mounts. The turbo's would have plenty of room to sit rear of the engine, exiting into an exhaust outlet on each side.
For now a Fiero Getrag 5-speed bolts up to the Northstar (with an adapter plate?), but there is a 6-speed that should work that's much stronger, coming out in a G6 GTP (IIRC).
That done right with lots of other goodies and wrapped up in an Evo II body would be the resourceful man's supercar.
Then of course you need a stock looking IROC to compliment it with.
Well the kit is made well and yes I know from experience. Evo ll is made better then 1. I have the 1 and the finish is better on the second version, I have seen both before any body work. The one in the link you put up are from a freind of mine and that car only needs lowered and front end need some more supports and wow. The rear tail light on version one plainly suck, due to cutting huge holes in the back of the car for fumes to come through. Need to do something more then put in the build tapes. Version 2 I do not think you need to cut the back of the car.
The only down fall to owning one of these cars is if your wreck it finding parts will be a nightmare and the attention it draws is more then I could have ever imagined. People come up to you where ever you are and wanting to talk about it and every one wants to know is it a real ferrari! get old fast, because then you have to go through all the **** of explaining it's a one of a kind car, and then more questions. People will follow you for mile just to ask, what is that. after about a year you just look forward while you drive so you don't have to see everyone staring. But *** you gota love this car!
i swear if i was able to get my hands on one of those kits i would build on in a second,but to me you would HAVE to have an LS1 or an equivalent engine in one of those to make it feel complete for me.damn i wish i had that kind of money.
but the look totally disguises a 3rdGen.
