Originally posted by Steven89Iroc Can somebody tell me how thick the fiberglass is at the the corner of the corner peices on the Hawks spoiler?
The only thing that bugs me about it is that that part is too square. Some fairly minor careful sanding before paint could take care of that.
Here's a 5 second MS Paint to give you a basic idea of what I mean. Forgive me for using your car, LT1Powered89.
Before:
The 'square' look of the Hawks spoiler is the main reason we made our own.... but the Hawks spoiler does look cool from certain angles. At the time when I made mine the only pics that I could find made it look very square.
I have got my 5" hawks spoiler now and started to see if it´s fit alright on my 1989 iroc. I had to take away 2 bolts in the middle and drill out 2 holes bigger to get in place . The left & right parts i had to take away the bolt on the top beacuse it was wrong angle on it. the tip of the side( left & right spoiler) are longer then the lights bottom ,maybe about 0,5 inch
anyone else that have had the same problem . no big deal to take away some bolts ,just curios about it
I have seen pics here and then the tip on the left&right part is ending in the same angle as the tail light , did it fit at once fore you or did you cut it down ??
i can show some pics soon ,maybe it´s easier to understand how i mean with pics
Here is a pic of the spoiler and i have made some red markings there the tip of the is longer. I just wondering if they came out so fore everyone else and you have modified the tip of the spoiler . If i´m not misstaken i think it looks like the red camaro in the beggining of this topic have also the longer tip.
No big deal to modified the sides but i´m just a littl curios about how everone else have done
I have had a Hawks High rise Spoiler for almost a year now - Love it. Because the pieces are solid I was able to cut off the left and right drops even with the bottom of the tail lights. At the same time I also tapered the drops down to almost nothing so they wouldn't look so bulky there.

You say the pieces are solid... Throughout, or just the bottom? I doubt they are wholly solid fiberglass, but I could be wrong I suppose. Something like that would make it easy to modify like I have shown.
These things sound like they fit worse overall than the Harwood cowl hoods that everyone complains about (though mine was okay). IMO, having a 1" extension below the taillight is unacceptable, unless they were actually going for that ridiculous look. I've heard of plenty of misalignment issues beyond the difference between stock body panel alignment as well. I understand that nothing is going to fit 100% perfect, but you shouldn't have to hack up and sand away at a $300 piece to get it to look and fit how it should.
None of this is even concerning the sharp corner piece, which is just aesthetics.
If I'm misinformed about any of this, someone please tell me.

BTW, that is because the spoiler is made to bolt on to 82-86 and 91-92 Camaros. 87-90's have a slightly different bolt pattern, as you have noticed.

Neither my spoiler or camaroguy18's spoiler side pieces come down below the edge of the bumper as far as yours. I would call Hawks and see what they have to say about it and maybe send them the picture. Mine is and 89 also and I had to do the same modification to make it work because of the different bolt pattern.

the swede.. I can't really see.. what did you change/shave?
if you look in the pics you see it easy , i did a red marking on one pic there the sides have longer tips . i shorted theme so they ended at the same line like the stock wing .(bottom of the taillamps)
if a cop pulls you over for a missing third brake light.. he is a lonely, lonely, poor pathetic bastard
the middle tail light on BOTH of my Camaro's have been not working for quite a while now, and ive never gotten any hastle from cops about them not working...i dont think they'd miss em' if you got rid of them all together by getting the 5" spoiler

Now the snow is melting over here so i took the car out today and took a few pics .
frome the front , i will clean the car up after staying in the garage all winter.
the rear now with the new wing
later when i take the car in traffic and the weather is nice i will take some nice photos , this ones are just outside the garage
wow i have now heard the spoiler called ugly, and ***** style, how do you consider this a "high rise" spoiler, it doesnt leave the deck, it is more nascar than anything, which is partly why i liked the styling, i love mine be warned the center section IS NOT solid i know that the ends appear to be, slap a big hood and nice stripe over it and its bad ***, looks great at night its tall enough to see in the mirror so as you hit street lights teh stripe comes and goes

i love this spoiler! i want to get one for my car, but im sort of hesitant. i have heard they take ALOT of prep work, and im not too good with fiberglass (ok, well ive never done it before) so im not sure if i want to drop $300 for a spoiler ill have to modify to get it right.
so how much prep IS really required?

Not so mouch to modify . beacuse i have an 1989 i had to take away 2 bolts in the middle of the center part of the spoiler. the sides you can see i have cut down and i had to take away the bolt in top to get the spoiler in the right . I dont think it was a lot of work , the spoiler needed some filler but thats nothing strange about a fiberglas spoiler .
Has anyone tried to alter the corners like speedmachine's photoshop of LT1powered89's car?
I think it makes it look better, ( more like johnnyiroc's) and it follows the lines better too. But I'm afraid of taking away too much fiberglass.
How thick is it?
Could it be solid like the bottom part?
i love my wing. the stock wing is a little bump, i dont even call it a wing. mine was not even close to being ready to paint when i got it though. damn black paint shows the littlest flaw.
