Took my Camaro, usual 20 minute ride...Here comes a TTA popping out of one of the side streets and it looks mint! He got behind me and eventually we stopped at a light together. He told me the car only had 11,000 miles on it...
His vanity plate was 1 of 38, I mentioned that and he said its actually one of 32 left as there are some documented cases of these cars being destroyed I guess.
He did mention one case of them being destroyed, when the late comedian Sam Kinison was killed driving his 89 Pontiac TTA...I'm with the older crowd and an avid listener of Howard Stern and knew of Kinison well...I just never knew what type of car he was driving when he got killed.
Does anyone have any info on that fact or can verify it? I'm just curious as to the truth of it.
Did some searching myself...dont say it was aTTA or the year but...
Sam Kinison died on the night of April 10, 1992 along U.S. Highway 95, between Needles and Barstow, California. The 38-year old comedian was on his way to a sold-out show in Laughlin, Nevada with his wife of five days, Malika Souiri, 27, riding shotgun. Following Sam’s Pontiac Trans-Am were Sam’s brother and manager Bill, his personal assistant, and his best friend Carl LaBove, in a van. Looking ahead of Sam’s car, they spotted a 1974 Chevrolet truck coming towards them. When the vehicles hit, both shot up into the air, crashing back down onto the road. Upon impact, beer cans got strewn about the road all around, allegedly thrown from the Chevy.
I'm not sure if any basic search will tell you make/ model of the vehicle the comedian was driving. A more fruitful search would be to contact the state's highway patrol, or whoever's jurisdiction that road/ highway falls under (state troopers/ police dept./ sheriff's department) and ask them to obtain an accident report, you already have the most important details, date, and name, they should be able to pull one out for you, if not for free, maybe for a small fee.
Yes it was a TTA, there's pictures of the wreck on one of those hollywood specials. I suppose that's also how he found out it was a cloth/hardtop or whatever combo that was only 38.
Yes it is true, that muscle car show that was on the history channel hosted by the wrestler goldburg, they had in an episode about the TTA and mentioned that that was what he was driving when he was killed.
