i kinda think it wouldnt look to good, but i like adding stuff, lol

Just a prewarning, keep the thread clean and on-tpoic

I personally like Neons under the car as long as you can't see the tubes.

I wouldn't personally on mine. If they are done right they do look good. Just make sure they are legal in your area. Some places have restrictions on colors also.

I want underbody neon, but have never been happy with the off-the-shelf kits. The side tubes look too short for our cars.

When I get some, I'll make my own. Have the tubes made to the length I want, fab my own plexi tube covers, etc. Neon is second nature to me, although most of it I did was for 120v A/C, but the only difference would be the power supply.

Just keep the color tasteful and hide the tubes. Hate to sound like a sheman, but as long as the color matches the overall scheme of the car and don't overdo it, it'll look nice.

Instead of having a poll whether to go with it or not.... have colors to choose from.

I know around here, red is illegal, IF the bulbs themselves are visible from the front....meaning, "technically", if the bulbs themselves are not visible, only the light on the ground, red is legal.

It's a technicality you'd hafta fight with a cop, and possibly a judge, when you fought the 'illegal lighting' ticket.

Yeah Stephen, we got the same deal here. It's especially illegal if they flash with the beat of music. Kid at school had red on his Bonneville... yeah he hit a train with that car btw... and as soon as the police saw it flash once, he was pulled over pretty dang quick. No blue, white, ride, or yellow visible at all... all reserved for emergency vehicles.

i got pulled over for suspicion of being suspicious, yea a load of bs...
but it was basically for doing a burnout in a parking lot full of pedastrions with my neons on. yea i got a citaion cause i knew the cops daughter. but he said that he could have given me a $150 fine for the underglow, $100 for each strobe and i had 4, and he counted the interior neons and said id rack up about $300 in fines there. so im gonna say its really really illegal to have nething in PA. I see people on the boulevard in philly drive with them on all the time. The cops in philly dont really care about subs or neons at all, i guess they have more important stuff to worry about, like murders.

smartman007, how the he11 do you hit a train? dont trains usually hit you?

stephen, you can get 52in sides from a box if you look, thats what I have on my sides and i think it fills it out nicely they're hard to find but you just have to do a little looking

I think neons look awesome

I had an old optix kit on my 89

compared to other neons kits ive seen they are the brightest

The standard 48" side tubes could have been longer but you never noticed from the size of the aura comming out

If you have ground effects, they'll have plenty of room to tuck out of view
If you dont then youll see the rear tube unless you mount it pretty far inboard

Youll scrape your front neon on tall speedbumps if you mount it to the lower radiator housing.

For the LEDs, how many did yall use?

I looked at the pics of your car...See, the side tubes look too short to me, even at 52". I roughly measured it closer to 64". I haven't gotten under the car to look at mounting space though.

I can get mine made directly to the length I want...even shaped to fit an existing underbody groove to mount them, if I need to. I did neon stuff almost every day, so it's no big deal for me to have made. No retail market either!

One of these days, but I'm in no hurry. I want my garage first.

Yes i like them sometimes. Just like everything though to pull it off correctly it has to be a nice install. Even-ness, No wires tubes showing, and a good matching color.

They are illegal where i am, but i still wouldnt have them, its just not me - too much attention i think. Though some red ones would look pretty good under my car

I think neons are totally out of place and hillbilly especially on a thirdgen. All the junk ricers have them, why would you want to look like that? Next thing people will want to put fart cannons on a thirdgen.

No thanks!

idk personally for me it was a getting more mature thing. back in the day when i first got my license and all i knew was the fast and the furious movies i was like o cool so i had a kit installed on my car LED kit with like 7 colors and what not. now im 18 and i never turn them on anymore i just grew out of that phase now im more into speed then showing off plus the only people that have underglow around here are retarded(no offense to anyone with)

I always thought they looked cheesy...but that's just my opinion.
The car's that I have seen that have them look like UFO's.
When it comes to appearance mods, just keep it simple.
So I would have to vote a BIG "NO" on this one.

I don't have underbody neons, but I do have a red L.E.D. wheel well kit. I personally prefer this over an underbody.... I've been pulled over a couple of times, but not for the lights, so I'm not sure if they're illigal or not since the cops never mention them when they quote my speed....

thats your interpretation. my interpretation is that if you have a car with tons of stuff on it, but you don't think anything does not belong then it is perfect. you add somthing else that does not need to be taken away and your car is still perfect.

however you could haveall the mods done you want, if you still have ugly side molding to take away the ca ris not perfect (nothing against side molding, i just needed an example.

in my opinion most mods (even aftermarket GFX) will look good if done properly, and in proportion. if you can see the bulbs and they are too dim no one is going to think they look good regardless of the car. if they are tucked away and bright enough to see they will look great on almost any car.

don't put underglow on the car just because your friends have it on thiers, but if you want it do it, it's your car. that being said screw the haters. if somone does not like it cool, if they flick you a bunch of crap for having underglo they are close minded.

I think they add something to shorter cars, because the effect is nice when you have a glow that is completley surrounding the car. Our cars are very long, and therefore leave gaps inbetween the sides & front/back. The only way to really cure that on our cars is to add more rods....so I say no

I like the looks of neon in the engine bay for car shows. Looks really cool at night especially with chrome. It attracts a'lot of people like a bug light.

Re: underglo or not?

I looked at putting neons on my car for some time now. Here in New York it is illegal to have them tho. So only use is for car shows or maybe showing off in your driveway or something. Honestly it would be the last thing id do to my car....not cause it doesnt look good but cause it shouldn't be a priority in any way. Something to add is they dont look right IMO inless the car is real close to the ground. That way your car looks like its floatin on neon. For our cars a custom built set up would be best due to the length of our cars. As stephen said the tubes just arent long enough on the sides. One thing i will say is i saw a third gen red iroc at a car show. He had it lowerd on chrome 18's with red neon that came out behind the wheel not the wheel well and red undernenth the car...engine bay was painted black and had a 350 crate which was all chromed out and had red neon in there somewheres. At the night show the car was just amazing. I LOVED THE ENGINE BAY. The chrome with red neon hiddin in there somewhere just stood out so nice. I wish i had pics of the car. It was a car show in rochester somewhere. Only thing i didnt like was he had lambo doors and the rims were spinners...but this was back when ppl were putting lambo doors and spinners on ford fiestas for crying out loud!...back to topic tho. Neons look amazing at car shows WHEN done right. Id say go for it if you just have cash to throw down.

Re: underglo or not?

yes, they have room for neons...its been a while since I posted in this thread. I still have my LEDs in the wheel wells but I hardly use them unless I'm cruising around with friends. Now, I have small LED's strips in the door handles that glow aswell...

Re: underglo or not?

Dang, I've thought of adding some, once I get everything else done with my car, but looking at the pics i'm not sure if i like them on my cars. If I did, I would get red to match my red interior when I have the top down... or White to match....the white paint job lol

Re: underglo or not?

I think if your car still look like it did in the 80's, its not going to look good with neons...

Re: underglo or not?

I don't mind neon lighting much at all. It will look decent IMO. Certainly not a priority item though.

You should drive at night with just your LED's turned on. Car will look like a UFO, and will scare the shitt out of people!
