New Project Rendering

I've been working with Murray Pfaff on a new project and I wanted to share some of the details. My first car was a 3rd Gen Camaro and I've been wanting to build a similar car ever since....this time with all the goodies. My goal is to include items from my first car, such as paint color, but also incorporate raw, road-race inspired styling that I grew fond of during my racing days.

Exterior body features will include fabricated front and rear spoilers, functional hood louvers, front brake air ducts, and a Porsche Guards Red and satin black paint scheme.

The powertrain features will include a high-revving, normally-aspirated 372ci small-block, T56 6-speed, and a 4.10 geared 12-bolt rearend. The engine bay will be finished in 'Traco' gray.

The suspension will retain stock geometry but include aftermarket control arms, springs, shocks, and bars. The brakes will include 13" front PBR-style units with LT1 rear discs.

The spartan interior will include safety items for track days and only the necessary gauges.

I think Murray did a great job capturing what I was looking for in this rendering. I hope you like.

Thats a great rendering of what could be a great looking car. I love every aspect of it. I really hope it gets built. Is it going to be a race/show car or just single purpose?

u guys sure those are rivits and not zeus fasteners like the 00 cobra mustang had to hold the front lip on , i like it , do it just like that . And how how revving can you make a 372, why not make it a solid lifter 302 .

you do have a point about the fasteners. still not that big of a fan tho, but to every man his own. i do like the idea of a solid lifter 302. that would add to the nostalgia road racer.

Re: New Project Rendering

I really like the design and love the rear spoiler how it hugs and covers the rear of the deck lid, and follows the tailights all the way down. The rear spoiler appears to be taller like a HAWKS... great!! The front spoiler being flattened out with whatever type fasteners they are looks totally road race - Silver State racer all the way, with a NASCAR esque lower edge. I love the look of the fastners, even though I would paint them body color if a street car. * Everyone knows how I feel about wheels with painted centers!!

?? What are you planning on doing with the turnsignals since those holes appear to be being used for the front bracke ducts ??

** By FAR the best use of the hockey stripe on a third gen that I have ever seen - flows to nose very well, unlike some I have seen!!!!

Nice work!!!

That looks hot! That's the first side stripe on a 3rd gen that I think actually looks good. I also think the rivets/fasteners/whatevers should stay since that's the look you're going for.

You hit the nail on the head. The front chin spoiler needs to be removeable. As far as the motor goes... it's actually designed like a DZ302 on steroids. It's a standard bore 377. 4.125" bore GM Sportsman block, 3.48" stroke Callies crank, CNC ported 218cc Canfield heads, Oliver rods, 13.5:1 compression JE pistons, Custom Cam Motion solid roller cam, Jesel shaft rockers, Wilson Victor Jr. It should make 550+ hp and run to 7,500rpm no problem. Here's a mockup photo...

The car will see street duty, dragstrips, and road courses at Sebring/Daytona etc. If there's an opportunity to show it, that would be fun, but it will not have a detailed undercarriage.

my only suggestion would be to paint the fasteners/rivets black to match the car and not have them polished...i think it would look much better...nice looking design though

I don't like the two-tone, something about it just doesn't flow for me. Feels like alot of random stuff thrown together (although I realize there is a theme). I'm anxious to see real pictures when it's done.

I hate to bring this up again, but... remember that carbon fiber hood from Japan? I think it would suit this car perfectly.

I considered the Japanese hood several times during the design. Early renderings had functional ducts on the outer edge of the hood, but I didn't like them near (or on top of) the strut towers. I'm planning to use the stock hood with functional, fabricated aluminum louvers to extract heat.

Here is a pic of the car. This is the actual pic used to create the rendering. It's an already-modified '87 IROC Z hardtop. It's got a super-straight 32,000 mile body and looks good as is, but the paint is not up to my standards.

Re: New Project Rendering

Thats a rad lookin car you got planned out. I want something similar, but i've noticed that a lot of the road race parts you see on those cars dont really work that well with the lines of these cars. Stuff like big spoilers... and that flat spoiler you've got planned on yours, I dont like. It's too steep.

But anyway, on the whole, awesome. I like the road race look, which means I can appreciate a lot of ricers... Unfortunately.

Eventually I hope to have a similar look for my car, but only if I can do it as tastefully as I want to. Im thinking for now I'll be leaving it visually stock for a long time. THese are good looking cars.

Let me know when you sell your hood.

But about th paint job, I dont like when the hood and the headlight buckets and top of the bumper cover are painted the same color like that. Have you considered a look more like the one in the attached picture? I wis hthat was my car, but it's not. It is, however, a very unique look that I fell in love with after I saw it. I just thought it looked realy classy, really different, and really racy.

Man, that hood is awesome. I'd love to have one of those. Even if its a fiberglass knock off. Is this available anywhere?

I really like the render in this thread too. I'm trying to figure out how to do my car. I'm setting it up more towards autox and road racing, so I'm leaning towards that kind of styling.

I just thought it looked realy classy, really different, and really racy.
WOw, nice surprise. Thats my car you pictured and thankyou for the compliment.
Neil, I say go with the front spoiler. I personally love the Dzus fasteners and I think most here would to if they see the real end result. the picture does not do them justice as you and I both know that real race look from being around rae cars in person. I too happen to be a long time roadrace buff- matter of fact here is a shot of my car on Calif Speedway 2.8mile road course.

I love the look so much I will offer you a split in the share of making two spoilers out of your proposed mold and shipping one to me. Keep me informed if you ae interested and we can talk $$$. I have yerned for a better front race inspired airdam.

Re: New Project Rendering

No updates yet. I've got a few irons in the fire before I can really get going on this. I do plan to final assemble the motor in Oct/Nov timeframe. Chassis, fab, and paint/body will be next year at the soonest.

Re: New Project Rendering

VERY nice! I was planning on doing that kind of paitn scheme on my camaro, but only the hood, decklid, and center section of teh spoiler. Now I want to do it teh same way w/ only the center of teh spoiler and the sides. Thanks fro the visual!

Re: New Project Rendering

AMAZING rendering, I love the racey look, and the function over form attitude. The only thing that bugs me is the spoiler end pieces not being body color, but it does work. I've never seen a hockey stick stripe work on a thirdgen till now either! O yeah, does your name have to be neil to go crazy on a thirdgen camaro?

Love it!!!...looks great...keep the rivets!...The only thing I dont like is the flat black on the trunk lid. It looks great on the chin spoiler, hood, and rear spoiler, but not the trunk lid itself.

Mike,

Nothing new to report. I've got a home remodeling project that is taking priority right now. I still plan to complete the motor over the winter and begin the rest of the project next year. Thanks for the continuing interest.
