Black outs. Either spray it on with VHT nideshades spray or buy The plastic covers for them. Covers should be on ebay and niteshades either buy locally or on summit

Might wanna check you local laws too. Both are illegal here. Nightshades even says it on the can "for off-road use only".

Re: Black tail lights

you can see the light through the nightshade spray but the darker you the less will come through.
it mainly effects daytime driving, night not so bad and your tails will not reflect. so I'm pretty sure its illegal for street use all most everywhere.

having said that a lot of guys still use the product.

Re: Black tail lights

The good side to VHT is that YOU can decide how dark to tint YOUR lenses. With just 2 light coats, you can tint them but not hassled, usually. Light enough, and you can claim they are stock. Depends on how strict your local cops are. With covers, theres no hiding the fact that they are there.

Let's face it, GTA lights are dark STOCK, but that's becuse of the grid pattern, and I've never once had a cop say anything.

A really nice way to do it as well is have a body shop or do it yourself put just a little black in the clear and spray with that.

Re: Black tail lights

i don't see any problem with that, it depends on how dark you are tinting them. Check your local laws on tint percentage. Hawaii is 35% on pass vehicles, as for SUV's & trucks that only pertains to the drivers & pass font windows, the rest can be blacked out as long as they have 2 side mirrors. Each state may differ, I know Vegas & Cali have different tint laws. The tint shop your going to should knopw the law.

Re: Black tail lights

OReillys can get VHT niteshades. Have to special order it. I got the order code somewhere. I'm almost thinking its SP001(those are zeros, not "O"'s). I payed maybe under $9 a can and it was there in 2-3 days.

What you do is wetsand the plastic at 220, then 400, then 800, then 1000. Clean it, then apply vht, then sand at 1000 then 1500 then 2000. And then use Duplicolor(i think) Truck and SUV clear coat spray paint. Then buff.

And actually go a little bit darker than how dark you want to be. This is because when you wetsand the vht niteshade down before you apply clearcoat, you take quite a bit of it off because the last layer doesn't seem to stick too well or something like that. Just a word of advice because now I have to redo mine because they aren't dark enough.

Re: Black tail lights

the niteshades is a good way to go i think for the reasons they said earlier. you can start with light coats, and go darker if you still think you can get away with it. i did 3 good coats and it looks pretty stock in person. so far i haven't had any problems with the police for it either.
during the day they are pretty dark, but with lights on you can't really tell a difference. this is about a half a can of niteshades and a can of clear coat.

Re: Black tail lights

what looks the best is when you spray the lights with clear with some black mixed in...due to the fact that the clear makes it realy shinniey and the black makes it abit darker.

~nightshade has a funney look to it some times so becarfull with that

~ i personal like the black out covers from gts ( wich are on ebay all the time)

heres a pic of my car

what you could do is get on in the GP for http://www.thirdgen.org/techboard/gr...-klearz-5.html (Group Buy: www.KLEARZ.com Camaro Tail Lights ( Clear, Smoked, Red, DARK Smoked ))

but if not that then go get it painted with a gun with the clear/black mix

You could probably get away with starting at 800 grit. I only start at 220 to sand off any DOT numbers. You gotta wetsand though.

Re: Black tail lights

One question though, wouldn't sanding it make it smokey? I've sanded plexi before and it would have that white smokey look to it. The Niteshade would cover that and make it more see-through?

Re: Black tail lights

If you go down to 1000 grit, the niteshade seems to get rid of a lot of the smokey or haze. It covers it up pretty good. The reason not to go more than 1000 grit or even polished is because the niteshade won't stick to the plastic then. 1500 grit won't even work sometimes. With a better paint, you may be able to get it to stick to plastic better.
