Ive been considering using the VHT to black out my tail light because the seperation looks terrible! Should i sand them before spraying? or would just a good cleaning do? Should they be wet sanded and cleared after?
thanks
Yes. I used 1500 grit wet and dry. Get it frostly looking, spray it and sand again, then spray a few more coats. Check out my thread. I did my tail lights.
No, you don't start with 1500. You use 220 grit(wetsand) to remove the DOT lettering. Then use 400 grit on the whole taillight, then 600, then 800, then 1000, then 1500 if the paint will stick to 1500.
yes they were painted with clear coat with a couple of drops of black paint. depends how dark you want it. i wanted them dark so the added little more black paint. the great thing about the lights is they very visible when you step on the brakes or when you turn on the parking lights. not like lens covers where it tones down the brightness alot. i say smoke because it kind like when you buy lens covers they offer them in clear or smoke (tinted)

what grit should i use to finish if 1500 too much?
1000grit, what hasn't been mentioned yet it that when you hit it with the vht, also apply a few coats of clear.
Sand the taillight(400 up to 1000), clean taillight, apply vht, sand vht(1000only), then apply clearcoat. buff the hell out of it if you want it to be even more shinier.

sounds good, cant wait to try this, what about the center section, will wet sanding from 400-1000 achieve a similar result since the plastic is already black?
