anyone know if those metal armor light polishing kits are legit? or just blowing smoke

No not really but try sanding them with 1500 grit and clear coating them, they look great

For light scuffs and scratches on plastic you could try http://www.meguiars.com/?clear-plast...Cleaner-Polish or a similar product. It's cheap and does help minor cosmetic issues. If you have significant damage, then a solution like Realmac4's would be the answer.

I'd just "Flitz it". Some people sand their molded lettering/numbering off the lights with 800 grit or so and then wet sand with 1500 and polish just like paint. The ones I've seen like that look great.

i started cleaning black tape off my tail lights . previous owner tried to make them look like grids . after cussing with mineral sprits 2 hrs. finally got all glue off . still did not look right , could see tape marks . had a can of brasso metal polish on my work bench , remember i used it on a plastic watch crystal . tried it with a sonic scrubber ( xmas gift ) . OMG , what a difference . turned out great , i even took off stock horz. black stripe ( r/s lens ) , imo looks great . worked for me . good luck .

Although I actually intend to replace the front and rear lighting after I paint the IROC, I wanted to post some pictures of how well this kit could work for those of you who intend to keep the lighting that you already have. I've used this kit on the plastic shell that covers the headlights on both of my Suburbans with great success!

The whole process to do both front lights took me 30 minutes, maximum.
Where the instructions called for the use of water during the next to the last stage in this kit - I decided to use Windex glass cleaner, (it just made sense to me).

Can you tell me the grits that kit has for i could do that to my lights but with the plastix polish

The "Sanding Discs" are 500 grit and the "Finishing Discs" are 800 grit.

Here is what i did on my DD 4th gen, i used 800 grit, then 1500 grit, then Duragloss plastic polish, you water sand the lenses by the way. If they arent bad, you can just use the plastic polish by itself.

The headlight polishing kits work well but it's a temporary fix. If your lights are oxidized the kit will clear them up for a few months,but it'll return.

The best thing for tail lights is to wetsand and buff them. Use 800/1000/1500 grit paper and then buff them and they'll come out looking like new.

Sure thing, you should be happy with the results. Just be careful of the body edges that surround the lens while you're working on it.

Like I stated before; because of the overall condition of my lights, I'll be replacing them when I paint the IROC. I just wanted to post this to possibly help some other members - every situation is different.
