best appearance upgrades

I am not looking to copy anyone i am just curious what kinds of things people have come up with to make the camaro or firbird their own and i am not just talking about the major things anyone can just put a set of rims on or a hood and things like that but what little things have you guys came up with ie.. the clear side markers amber tailights things like that, they are subtle and yet make it personal so lets see some pictuers and even if you want to share what you are thinking of would be great
thanks in advance

Re: best appearance upgrades

Lets see what I can remeber.
I know a somewhat popular mod is to paint the amber on the tail lights red so they are all red.
Custom gauges, steering wheel, lots of spoilers have been hand made a little taller/longer.
Looks like you can see your brakes thru the rims, paint the rotor/drum/caliper.
Clean up and paint the engine bay.
Like you said clear lights. Some guys have gone to composit headlights. A few HID's.
Maybe some type of stripe, or a second color to break up a solid color. Have to be kinda careful stripes are kinda hard to make look bad, but anything else can be hard to make look good.

Re: best appearance upgrades

You could shave everything... but that would mean repainting,
Bigger breaks not only look better but work better lol.
Tinted windows...
IDK kcb listed a lot of good stuff.

Re: best appearance upgrades

4th gen side mirrors.
4th gen side moldings or shave the side moldings
Shave the locks, shave the antenna. Leave the door handles on.
Shave emblems/stickers or get custom emblems
4th gen or chrome handles or do some cutting/welding and put in whatever handles you want
For camaros there are now aftermarket taillights available. KLEARZ.com i think
Camaros also have clear front blinkers available(not talking about side markers), for a 82-90 you have to make them
Billet style fuel door
Aftermarket hoods/spoilers

IMO a drop is most dramatic change you can do for free. Takes some time to remove and cut the stock springs/or replace, an inch or so is a major stance update, in the engine bay i did a 4th gen water resovoir swap, and removed my tank to my washer fluid(never use it) reapainted and this cleaned up my engine bay quite nicely.

Re: best appearance upgrades

As far as things I have done/planned for my Camaro: Shaved door handles, antenna, the little finger "bump" on the gas door, and the side mouldings, Reversed the hood so it opens to the front like a Vette, Removed the coolant and washer fluid tanks and will replace them with a single tank for both opposite the battery, Smoothed both battery trays, Windows were tinted when I got it but I will replace it with red tint(car will be painted black eventually).

One guy on here added the fender mounted heat extractors from a second-gen Z28 to his. Turned out looking real nice. There are also a couple threads about opening the hood louvers/making them functional.

IMO, nice looking, nice size wheels and lowering create a major improvement in the looks of almost any car.

Of course, ask on this board and you'll get a few hundred opinions on what type & size of wheel to go with.

Re: best appearance upgrades

shave the handles and cut a C6 style notch in the rear quarter then install a MECHANICAL handle inside, aka not the electric solenoid style that tracks don't allow. Super clean shaved look, but you don't get locked out when the battery dies. One of the many things on my list, the rest are top secret though ha

Re: best appearance upgrades

The hood wasn't difficult to do. It was actually a lot easier than I expected it to be. Details can be found here : http://www.thirdgen.org/techboard/fa...erse-hood.html (Tilt/Reverse Hood)

I'm in Windber, a small town bordering Johnstown. Google maps says I'm on the other side of the state from you. You know, the side that won the Super Bowl

Re: best appearance upgrades

Progress pics are in the thread I posted the link for. Unfortunately, finished pics will have to wait a few months as the front end of the car is currently stripped for an engine swap and smoothing/painting the engine bay. I will update the thread this spring once I get it all back together and can get the car outside in some better light than I have in my tiny little garage.

Re: best appearance upgrades

BRAKES! The stock brakes are too small. I put LS1 brakes on all 4 corners.

Lowering springs. I have a 1 1/2" kit on my car.

Wheels. There's lots of great looking aftermarket, or GM wheels available.

Another thing that I did was made a custom mesh cover for the grill, and stuck a Z28 rocker emblem on it. You can see pictures of it in my photo album linked in my signature.

a huge improvement to both looks and comfort would be forth gen seats; cheap at salvage yards.

Re: best appearance upgrades

Probably my favorite mods to my car would have to be my one-off tail light lenses and a real 4th gen wing:

I've done so many mods I can't remember most of them off the top of my head. The next mods on my list include swap in different door handles and and fab up some custom door panels.
