how well does it seal to the glass, I think i like the looks better. You would think that since our sweaps are mostly straight someone would make universal sweaps that could be cut and drilled to fit.

i forgot to mention that the 4th gens use small metal clips to hold the sweeps on instead of screws so they have to be removed in order to work

the only problem i ran into is that the 4th gen window sweeps have a slight arc in the shape of them but if you screw them down it will bend it back down

I didn't see a responce earlier, do they still seal really well against the window? Also they look taller, is it unconfortable to drive around with your arm out the window? Hitting the yards this weekend, may grab a few sets.

they seal up decently but with the window adjusters you can snug it up closer

That is an excellent example of a resourceful person. Good Job! I spent over 12 hours scouring junkyards this past Saturday and I got to wondering if they would fit. I didn't get any because I have a brand new set of GM sweeps that I'm fixing to put on after the new paint.

Re: Finally a window sweep solution!!!

Several months back while at the U-Pull-it i took some off a white 4th gen, they were in excellent condition and i figured i could take them and try and fit them on my 85. I think i also paid 5 bucks for the pair.
Now that i know someone has gotten them to fit I know what i'll be doing next weekend. Thanks for the tip!

Re: Finally a window sweep solution!!!

I did this this weekend. i messed the first one up, because i cut the excess off of the rear of the sweep, instead of the front. If you cut all of the excess off of the front then the notch for 4th gen mirror/triangle seal will line up better with the triangle piece. If you cut if all off of the back like I did on the first one you end up with a long 1/4" gap between the window and the factory cut out for the 4th gen triangle seal. I went yesterday and got a new one to redo the drivers side. there is only a small gap (like 3/16") between the edge of the triangle and the sweep. I think this gap could be eliminated if I didn't cut as much off of the front, which would move the sweep back some and you could then cut the back to fit, but I wanted to keep the factory cut on the back because you can see it. with a razor blade i can cut a small portion out of the transition spot where it contacts the triangle piece, and you won't be able to see it because of the mirror.

I wish I would have seen this post earlier, because the o.p. says to cut some off of the front and then trim the rest off of the back , not cut all off of one side like i did. anywho this is a good mod in my opinion and it's not that hard to do. mine seal very well against the window, and not to mention they're like 15 years newer than the originals that were on my car.

Re: Finally a window sweep solution!!!

i did it, i trimmed all the extra off the front to avoid exposing the inner metal at the end of the door, and trimmed back the flap so it all lays nice behind the mirror...

getting the screw holes lined up right can be tricky, and getting to the screws behind the glass required the screw driver bit held in a vise grip approach but it was worth it

Just did this a couple weeks ago, very easy and very cheap. Too help with getting to the screws behind the top of the window, I drilled out the backside bottom stop(rubber was gone and I was going to replace with the rubber bike brake) and took out the top adjustors (things with the felt on them). This lets you get the window down farther and also you can pull the window to you to get more room.

I also used bigger new self tapping screws with a hex head on them so I could handle them better with the drill. Also no need to use the original holes, I got the piece cut close held it in place and drilled a pilot at the backside and put a self tapping in. Then just work your way forward. After I got all the screws in I took a straight cut tin snips trimmed the ends.

After all is said and done the 4th gen sweeps make good contact and I think the bigger strip of rubber looks better than the tiny stock stuff.

Re: Finally a window sweep solution!!!

i did this a little while ago and going to give away my secret for the triangle piece where the seal doesn't meet up and seal my body guy gave me a piece of 3m seal thats has an adhesive side and just trimmed it and stuck it under the well at the edge of the seal so its out of sight and it takes up the gap and seals tight otherwise if you leave this gap your letting any water run down in the down and i just painted and fixed rust and rot and was worrying about making a new problem
