How to Clean/Maintain New Paint?

Long story short I just had to get the chin spoiler/grill/bumper repainted due to hitting a small animal. Paint looks great and due to the low mileage/condition of the original paint, it matches perfectly...Looks as if it just came out of the factory.

Anyway, I want to know the proper way to maintain/care for/clean this newly painted portion of my car... I am taking it to the Camaro/GM Nationals this weekend so obviously the car will be detailed within the next few days but I'm paranoid about even washing the front end with one of my auto sponges (or whatever they're called) because I don't want swirl marks or tiny scratches. I know not to wax it for 60-90 days but Im wondering how to keep it clean in the meantime...

Any information you guys can provide regarding how to care for new paint would be greatly appreciated.

Yes, you definitely don't want to wax it for at least a couple months but you shouldn't have to worry about washing it. Whatever you wash the rest of the car with should be fine.

Use lots and lots of water to "lubricate" the towels or what ever you use.

Also, for future, I would recommend using Rejex - doesnot really prevent damage, goes on like liquid wax - big benefit is it is ultra slippery and most bugs etc will hoise off (unless you let them get really baked on). You can find it online.

Re: How to Clean/Maintain New Paint?

Ok sounds good... now generally on the 90 mile drive to Carlisle (where the GM nationals are) i get a fair amount of bugs on my front end. How should I go about removing them upon arrival at the show? Typically I would get a detailer spray and a microfiber towel to do my bidding but I am worried that with the new paint that will make marks...

Is there something I can use or should i just leave the bugs on the car while its in the show?

Re: How to Clean/Maintain New Paint?

Every major car shjow I have ever been to has had some provision for running water/hose area to wash cars - can't believe this one wold be an exception. Take lots of clean towels, rinse and repeat, let stand wet to soften your bug collection, rinse and repeat again and again, then use a soaking wet towel, do not reuse same one more than 2x unless you can fully rinse it in between. I would not leave them on, the longer they bake in the sun more likely you are to have to work hard to get them off, and maybe get some small marks on your new paint. Best advice I could give is to not be like me, be PATIENT and take your time, let water and soap do as much of the work as possible and only rub lightly.

FYI I also just had my front bumper cap and spoiler repainted (no damage just scraped and not as nice as the rest of the car) - mine will sit for 2-3 months as my right arm is in a cast so cannot do much until then - at least my paint will no longer be "fresh" when I get around to it. good luck

Well fresh paint can be a beeotch. If you need to wax you can always use a wax that is slicone free,It wont smother the paint. Its Wizards shine master. It was recommended to me by a custom painter. It really is great stuff and perfect for what you are lookin for.

Also the best way I have have found to remove bugs is plain ol warm soapy water and a bug sponge

or microfiber towel.
