amoral or straight up silicone spray? Or does anyone use anything else? Anyone know of a pros or cons to using one over the other? Thanks in advance.

Mothers "Back to Black" is what I use, and it works great!

I used armour all on my new gm strips and it left a nasty greasy film that got on the window. I wiped it all off of course lol.

yeah I got it at Autozone actually. Put it on, let it soak in for a couple mins then wipe off. Just don't let it get on your paint because it isn't very easy to get off. it wont hurt it, but it smears.

I use that stuff too.

Looks like i'm goin' shoppin tomorrow! i think it'll help with new weathersrtipping to keep it like new.

And Mequiars Quik Detailing Spray really works wonders for smears/handprints/bugs. Seriously, if you havent tried it please do.

Yeah, a few years back, I heard of amour all drying things out over time. That's why I was a little leary of using it all of the time.

My grandpa had some awesome classic cars back in the day. He always used Vaseline on all seals and rubber. I've used it since I got my first car.

My Ts don't leak, and my rubber looks new in almost every place.

You can even use it on ground effects when they first start fading, to bring the color back through the "clouding."

I also use it on other places inside the car, but only once a year or so. I do all of my seals about once a month.

I'd never use Armorall. Ugh.

Use silicone. Never use petrolium based products, it deteriorates and makes the rubber break down.

your t-tops probably dont leak cuz anything petroleum based makes anything rubber swell, i.e. never ever ever ever ever let anything oil based near anything brake related, can cause all brakes to seize. anyway, i have heard of vasoline breaking down rubber quicker too.

i have heard some different things about armorall, last car show some guy was yelling at me for putting it on my t-tops, i figured he was some old cranky guy who should worry about his own car, but i guess i should listen to people more lol.

I wouldnt reccomend using armorall on anything. Once you use it, you have to keep using it or all your plastic and rubber parts will dry out and turn white. Armorall saps all the natural silicates out of plastics and rubbers, and makes them ruin quickly. When you look in a car, and all the little plastic bezels around the window and mirror switches are all chalky white looking, thats armorall, and when you barely touch your dash board and a giant piece cracks out and is brittle like a potato chip, thats armorall. Id venture to say half the seat belt buttons you see that have turned chalky pink are also because of armorall. My car is garage kept, and all my seat belt buttons turned chalky like that, not from sun, but from the armorall zapping the life out of it. You live and you learn, just wish it hadnt cost me loads on new interior parts.

This is exactly what I've heard. Armorall touches nothing in my vehicles. As for weatherstripping I use a product made by STP called Son of a Gun. Its a silicone based spray that is supposed to help from uv deterioration. It really helps bring color back to things and keeps weatherstripping like new. Awesome stuff!

My dad uses the Son of a Gun stuff, and says its really good. He never keeps a vehicle long enough to see the long term effects of it so I have never used it myself, but have heard good things.

As far as the negative comments about Vaseline, while I appreciate everyone's opinion, my rubber is like brand new everywhere on my car, even though it's more than 19 years old. People ask me all the time how I keep it that way. You have to use what works for you.

I've got a 87 GTA Org rubber seals. They STILL look new, and yes I use vasoline on them too. I'll be at car shows and it's always the old crazy guys who don't believe me that the seals are 22 years old and still looking that good.

i would just use some type of silicone spray, but i did use to put Vasoline on some T-Top wheatherstripping and it seemed to work really good.

what i use and it works awesome is alittle Rain X on the weatherstripping and on the window weatherstripping as well. not only does it keep it nice and flexible, but it prevents squeeks too

The same stuff we use on glass?! Where did you get the idea of using Rain-X? I don't see how that stuff would work on rubber! Isn't it an alcohole based product? Many more will have to try that before I do!!!! Staying with vasoline(kinda sounds gross). LOL.

Vaseline is a petroleum based product.....that would be the last thing I would use on weather stripping.

i read it in a car book. it was used to keep windows from squeeking when you roll them up or down. so far it works very well and have no problems with my weatherstripping

About 9 years ago, I was at a GM Dealership getting a new window motor put in. I asked the tech who was 55+ and working for so many + years, "what should I use on my weatherstriping?" He told me to use "petroleum jelly"....aka vasoline! So I've been using it about every 2 years, and I haven't had any problems YET... Is it a fact that vasoline WILL break down rubber? (Info from what source)? Not trying to be an A**hole, i just want to know for sure, Fact or Fiction.

Yep, that's exactly what it did to my dash pad...it's got shades of gray all through it if I don't put anything on it...I've refused to use armorall ever since....on the bright side, it hasn't cracked yet.

Thumbs up on the STP Son of a Gun products! I kinda stumbled upon this buried treasure when I was out looking for tire shine. Because I didn't want to pay ten dollars for a bottle of spray that gets all over the rim and splatters all over the car cuz it won't stick and is made for parking not driving, I bought the Son of a Gun cuz 1) It's a Foam, 2) After observing (compared to Armor All) that's its twice as shiiny and holds longer 3) IT'S CHEAP! As a matter of fact I haven't found a cheaper shiner.

AGS SIL-GLYDE compound I have been using this for years. And a vert has tons of rubber.
