Well guys I wanted to know if you think I am on the right track to having muscle car image. Do you think if I added the maggie or a procharger that the car would be sexier?
heres a video of me living up to my name burnouts4ever

your running a goat - that not a 3rd gen. but it is a nice car even if it was made outside of the US. cant argue with the 405 hp 350 engine. although im not a fan of alunimum blocks. had one back in the day in a buick skylark - but the engine was sold to british leland for use in the stag, but originally it was to go into the lotus europa. so my europa only has a 4 cylinder dual overhead cam with dual SU carbs, instead of a V8 with 4 sidedraft SU carbs.
Much love for the GTO!!! Even though I drive a Camaro, I think I have equal if not more love for Ponitac, and the GTO is on my Top 5. I had a 2000 Grand Prix Gt and I was into the whole 3.8/GTP/GTX/GT scene for a while until I flipped her.
And yes, 305 TBI's are sexy, just ask my backseat.
i dont find anything sexy about a box that looks like every other box out there - even if it has a 405 hp engine.
i like the 3rd gen because i love the lines - my wifes honda looks as good as your goat.
but the engine is great.
a thought to keep in mind - people who sit at the line smoking their tires or waste time getting the front end off the ground - USUALLY LOSE THE RACE.
i love your ride.
and you can go plenty fast with a 305.
you can run with the big dogs - but not too big. 383 is out of your class but a 350 - there are lots of them around and not all are fast.
you can get a respectable 300 hp out of one and run at 6k rpms.
and i do like your ride, yes i do.

i dont know about where you come from , but around here thier aren`t any 305`s runing whith 350`s unless they are a wore out POS. the golden rule still holds true, there is no replacement for displacement!

not sure if that was pointed towards me, but if it was thanks!
and i think if you have a clean running 305 with a few mods (exhaust, maybe a good port and a good cam) then you could be able to run with some 350's. remember after a certain year 350's were only rated to have about 20-25 more hp than 305's.
sounds mean as hell...but man do you need to widen out those tires in the back if you want to satisfy any 'muscle car image'...those things are skinnnnnnnnnnnnnnny!
Mods so far: MSD Cap and rotor, MSD ignition coil, Accel 8.8mm ignition wires, Hooker Super Comp Shortie Headers, Flowmaster 3in catback, underdrive crank pulley, custom cold air intake, NOS wet 125 shot, air foil and a lead foot! no E/T's yet. ...TURBO COMING SOON...Other mods include keyless entry and remote start, and Sequential Turn Signals.
I am surprised the mods have not locked this yet. It has nothing to do with a third. The fact that pontiac brought in a import and in order to get it to sell basterized the GTO name, does not make it a American musclecar. Just makes it another wannabe. Wait until they come out with a electric car that has a max speed of 60 and stick the Firebird name on it and you will know what I mean. As far as sexy, do you mean to attract women?.... A women does not give a rats *** what you drive or how fast your car is. They want to know if you have cash and a good job.

in cal we see lots of very fast small displacement cars. the favorite was the 283, maybe you have heard of it.
you can get a lot of pep out of a 305 and there are a lot of fast ones here.
when you increase displacement by 50 ci you definitely have an advantage over the 305, but remember that lots of people just drop a stock 350 in and do nothing else to it.
the 305 swirlport is a torque monster. it was made for a truck engine. you get a lot of low end torque but crap out at 4500. but to 4500 you hold you own.
add a zz4 cam, good heads, 601's or 081, with a lot of work and you cure one of the main problems with the 305 - breathing.
the stock tpi was designed to run on the 305 and has plenty of power for it but on a 350 it just about max's out unless you add more aftermarket.
a good set of headers and you have a very sweet running 305.
if the same thing is done to a 350 you will lose but if it just a run of the mill 350 with nothing done, and there are lots of those out there - you can run with them.
and everything you can put into a 305 you can put into a 350 so if you already have the 305 you can use the parts in a new build.
and there are some very clean 305's here.
but the basic premis of building is the same now as it was 50 years ago when i first started playing with engines. it was a sign on the wall of a speed shop.
speed costs, how fast can you afford to go. and there is no substitute for cubic inches. remember we were running 427's in the 60's.
we used to use paxton on our 283's to surprise 327's. we can still do that.
but i still think you can get some very fast 305's.

this is a great link.
the eternal fight - displacement vs finess. formula ones are small displacement as are nascar's. no one would say they cant run like crazy.
if you are going to talk muscle then this is right on the mark. we spent years arguing with our buddies about this very same topic and this one is no different.
for those of you not around in the 50's and 60's - this is what we did, so now you have been there.
this IS what cars are all about.
ain't it grand?
