I don't know if I posted this in the right section, if not, please move it.
I'm wondering what year the camaro taillights were switched, from the ones with the single bar through the middle, to the grid style. Did it switch between 84 and 85 like other parts of the car? Or was it later. I would search images on google, but everybody customized their cars so I never know what's factory or not.
OH i thought so because i'm looking at a camaro online and it has the grid lights, but they say it's a v6. is the v6 only in sport coupes? It has glad door bumpers, I read that only the base had that too. AM I right? thanks for the help
By reading on this among other boards, you can see - most of these cars have been modded in some fashion - to actually find a car that is completely stock original equipment would be a rare thing, unless it's been fully retored by someone. And swapping taillights is a 5 minute job. No one much liked the single-line lights, and most everyone swaps to the grid style almost immediately after getting a 3rd gen Camaro (unless they are doing a total original restore).
I do know that in the RS models, 1988 - 1990 had the single-lie lights, and they went BACK to grids in 1991 and 1992. There were grids prior to 1988, but what years/models I don't know.
Well,if I get the car, I want it to be stock, with original equipment to a point. That includes the taillights. I'm not that type of person who would buy a sport coupe and put a z28 nose on there with GFX. No, I wont do that. SO I was just wondering. Thanks!
I must admit - I'm not stock original outside or inside. I love the 3rd gens, and I've taken pieces from what I liked the best. I have the louvered hood (from earlier Z28's), I have the T-Top shades (I don't think was an option in the RS), and I mounted an original console clock from a 1984 on my dash (it's just too cool to me to have a clock that says "Camaro" on it). To each his own - I love my car, and I love most everyone else's as well. That's why going to the GM Nationals at Carlisle is so much fun for me - where else can you see 100 acres of Camaro's in one weekend?
I had thought the grids came out with the IROCs, and the old Z28 (big black bar) lights became base lights (or at least lower-optioned lights) and then I think for 90 or 91 grids became standard for everything.
Yea i got a 89 camaro and they have the single black bar between the lights on the taillights. And my car is a standard RS model with the v6, with no power options.
