i recently purchased a 1985 Z28 that is black with gold trim. i love the car, but i'm not crazy about the stock wheels that have gold accents on them. has anyone here ever tried to do something different with this type of wheel? i assume the gold is just painted on, so could possibly be stripped off? in that case i would have bare (silver type) wheels. how would that look on a black/gold car? maybe i could paint the gold areas black.......has anyone ever tried doing that? anyone have pics of this type project? thanks for looking. rick |
You got to embrace you gold accent rims. I did on my black/gold Camaro.
But if you feel you must change then you will need to strip off the clearcoat and the paint. You will need something like Aircraft Stripper. It is a lot of work and will take several days for completion. Rims will be all silver and can be repainted. Then you will need to polish the rims and wax or re clear coat them to protect them. Only you can decide if you like the silver rims...I didn't like it and stayed with the gold. There just was nothing else on the outside to tie in the silver so I felt it was not color co ordinated.
