Use the green scouring pads to prep them

Then use this :

Use 3 to 5 very light coats. Change reference points between each coat to make sure the "hard to reach areas" get covered at least once.

Do this while they are on the ground, or while hanging on something that is earth grounded.

Bring them to Tulsa Ok, and we will knock em' out together

Decided it was time to repaint the hood louvers.

I bought some 400 grit sandpaper to remove the oxidization and a can of SEM trim black spray paint.

Old louver on the top (with all the oxidization), while the one on the bottom has been prep sanded with 400 grit sandpaper.

I made sure I sanded the edges and the underneath of the louvers so the paint would adhere properly. After I sanded each louver I washed them with some Mothers car wash and thoroughly rinsed them off and let stand to dry.

Paint wise, each louver was sprayed three times - top-to-bottom, bottom-to-top and top-to-bottom again. This way the underside of the louver receives the proper amount of paint.

The outcome.....pretty darn nice.

Very happy with the result.

If you want black louvers then there should be no reason to paint. The black color goes all the way through the material. Just remove any oxidation with rubbing compound or similar abrasive and the black color should bounce back. You have to spend that much time prepping for paint anyway. Painting will just come back to bug you down the road when it chips or flakes off. If you want the louvers to match the color of the car then you have no choice but to paint. My louvers hadn't been really cleaned for 10 years when I bought the car and it took me one afternoon to get them looking very good. Don't paint unless you have to.

I painted because the previous owner painted them, and they were pealing. I just tried Krylon, but I had a problem with orange peal. Oh well.. I need to use a paint that will give a respectable looking finish.
