Brake light mirrors

I've been wanting to do this for a while now, tell me what you think. I put LED pods on the back of my side view mirrors & wired them to my brake light switch. They light up in addition to the taillamps/ CHMSL.

Sweet. Now just tie them into your turn signals too! Dual filament bulb, maybe?

How'd you mount the socket in there?

Dude that s**t looks nice, thats a plus for me to do on my car. I bet i probobly looks better in a black car I think not sure, but good idea though. I wonder if you could hook it up to your turnsignals? that would be great to as well.

Tony.

The pods have a flat back so I put some 3M trim tape in the back & stuck it to the back of the lens. I lucked out cuz my car is white so the reflect really well. I don't know how well they would show up on other color cars? As for directionals, I figured I'd see how this part went first. There's 2 pods on the back of each mirror, I don't know where I could put another. I got the 2 pack of LED pods at Autozone, by the way.

I meant a dual filament bulb, to work as both brake & turn. Not 2 more bulbs per side. Wouldn't take up any more room than it does already. Just requires another wire ran.

I like that. I'll keep in mind for my 4th gen mirror mod I'm working on.

It's kinda funny.

Awhile back, I looked around & around for small lights I could fit under the housing, or just behind the mirror, but fit in the opening. I never thought about simply lighting up the whole inside area.

How bright are they day & night?

Video?

Thanks for the feedback everyone!! You can't see the lights at all during the day. I know, that kind of sucks. But at night I usually get the car next to me going "how'd you do that?" I'll try some more pics soon.

Re: Brake light mirrors

That is pretty cool, I wonder if it's legal here in CA. I know the turn signal on there would be but with so many BS laws here, I wonder if brake lights are legal on the mirrors (not that I follow all the laws). Later.

Re: Brake light mirrors

I was wondering how much better it would work if the inside of the mirror case were white/blue or even chrome. One thing I'm curious is if it causes any glare in the mirror when you're changing lanes or whatnot?

I was going to try a mirror if the light wasn't bright enough, but I lucked out with the white. I just cleaned all the dirt out. The red does not reflect or obscure vision in any way either.

Good to know on the inside color and glare. I'll have to paint mine though.
The thing with the mirror is that it might be hard to keep the light even around the edges.

I tied the lights into the brakelight switch wiring. Theres an orange constant power wire, blue wire to tails & yellow wire to CHMSL. Used a flat butt connector & slid it in to the back of the switch harness.
