I've bought an Iwata Revolution CR airbrush for various work regarding my other hobby. But I was thinking if I could use it to repair the paint on my car (flat black), it seems to me it'd be a lot better than a spray can. I'm currently working on the drivers side door, an area has had a rust attack because of chipped paint.
Seems like a simple plan to me: remove rust, prime, seal, base coat, clear coat, color sand and buff to blend the area. But I figured I should ask the experts first!
I've also removed my spoiler because it is has cracked on the underside, I am planning to mend it and refinish the underside, once again it seems the airbrush should suffice here so I don't have to buy a dedicated paint gun.

well i am by no means an expert at painting. but i knocked a HUGE hole in the tailgate of my truck while towing my boat. i lef the tailgate down and the winch knock a chunk out of it. its made of fiberglass and i epoxied the pieces back on and used a bottle of GM touch up paint in a airbrush and it looks like nothing happened paint wise. it blended perfectly. you can see the glued in piece cuz i suck at bodywork and didnt sand it flush but its a freekin truck that i wont be selling and if i get skilled enough and have a proper sander i will go back and redo it.
but a hobby type airbrush worked fine for me for a repaint on a 6inch by 8inch patch. worse case that can happen is having to redo it. since you got the tools at hand tape it off and give it a shot. you cant make it worse. and can always resand it back down and go a different route if your not happy wit the results. if it works to your satisfaction you savced a ton of money if not you havent lost anything but a little time trying.
Oh yeah I got another question, my center piece on the rear tail lights has gotten some superficial damage, it cannot be fixed. But I was thinking if I could paint it? Paint it black with basecoat and then clear coat it, then color sand. Should work right, then I would get a shiny plain black center piece.
Then I could buy some decals from autografics.com and it should look pretty cool. BTW anyone know how it would turn out if you put the decals under some layers of clear coat? Then they'd be quite protected one would think.
