Can anyone post pics of there ingine bays? I am trying to look for those that have colored wiring or tubing(not sure what they are called), colored plugs, chrome, all the works.
What is that bar called that goes across the engine bay used to hold the car stronger in the front?

a clean engine bay is good for when you show it off very often and so if any leaks occur you know EXACTLY where it's coming form.

I guess mine isn't a good example because I hid every wire I possiably could. It still looks 'busy'/cluttered & I'm not quite happy w/it yet but,, it's getting there
Although a pita,, I'd rather no wires than colored flex loom,, not that it's bad looking mind you,, it's just not something I care for (seeing wires/loom in general).
Not sure about the strut bar. I know Hotchkis and Edelbrock make them for our cars. I think someone else does also. For the convoluted tubing, just go to your parts store. They should have different colors and sizes and such. I think 20 feet cost me about $5.
not much going on just yet, but I'll have more pictures soon. I have done a few more things, like removed my smog pump and got chrome thingies for the alt. hahaha thingies, silly me.

Thanks brother. It's WAY too cluttered, but once I get it running bulletproof I'll go back to hiding all of the wiring and crap. Like Deadbird, I'd rather hide it and keep it clean. However, it always seems that I'm fixing something or other, which means I'm pulling wires or other crap out of their looms to check stuff. Eventually I'll get it.
Here is mine, I am still working on it of course. I just ordered the 140 amp chrome PowerMaster alternator for it(on backorder for 2 weeks ). I am also going to order a strut tower brace and a chrome A/C cover. In my opinion Kenny Brown makes the best strut tower brace, Hotchkis also makes a good one.
how do you hide all the wires? I have been wanting to get rid of a lot of clutter under my hood since i rebuilt the engine but havent known exactly how to hide stuff, i have always loved the simple clean, clutterless engine bay
Mine ain't nearly as chromed a some of you folks' is but I like it pretty well

Steve I had not idea your engine bay was so colorful. Me likes. When I do my V-8 Swap I plan to have alot less cluter than I do now.

Well, thank you (hopefully you're talking to me - if not, don't tell me ) I like it too. Yours is pretty damn sweet; having to do that kind of detail would drive me batty.

17 maybe. Its for show, not go right now. Honestly, I don't know what it can run right now. Until 2 weeks ago 21.52. Yes it was bad, real bad. The 2.8 was way messed up. Hence the decision to go V-8 in the near future.
We have since discovered that the car runs awesome at 14 degrees of timing, no ping, on 87 octane. Wow. Supposed to be set at 10, so we have concluded that the balancer must have walked. The car has been off all this time. We rebuilt the distributer and are looking for a good excuse to go the 2 hours it takes to go to either track and run. The car will actually put you back in the seat now.
NOPI is having a track day this weekend. I thought about crashing it. Get a pass before they run me off. Heck its prob imports only. Plus how embrassing would it be to get stomped by an import. Man I wish there was a closer 1/4 mile track. If we have truely fixed the car, with teh intake and exhaust mods, it could run 16 something. Though thats based on what others have said. I would be happy to get what a stock 2.8 gets.
I'm getting it dynoed this weekend though, if they can fit me in. The club is doing a dyno day. Figure I can see if it is better than stock: 135hp with 160lbs.ft torque (out of my 87 Firebird brochure from Pontiac) We have reason to believe it might have been rebuilt with S10 heads instead of the performance heads. This weekend will tell us the truth.
I think I may still have some leaky injectors though. That may hurt me.
Mods:
Ported the plenum & runners
Ported exhaust manifolds, since there are no headers for 2.8s Exhaust manifolds ceramic coated
Ram Air (technically under 100 mph it only gives you cold air)
Flowmaster exhaust
2.5 in cat
EGR block off
Throttle body coolant bypass
MAF screens removed
MSD Coil
Taylor 8mm wires
ACDelco Rapidfire sparkplugs
Holley adjustable fuel pressure regulator
Well, thank you (hopefully you're talking to me - if not, don't tell me ) I like it too. Yours is pretty damn sweet; having to do that kind of detail would drive me batty.
S.
Yepers, I was talking to you.
Thanks, sir. I actually enjoyed doing the details. I got so sick of the grime that would not clean off. So when I had the power steering pump bracket break. We went wild. 2 bolts sheared off in the block One in the water pump, the other was an exhaust manifold bolt. We had to take it down to the point where we decided why not. Paint the bay black. With the engine in there mine you. I mask off really well by the way.
We took off all the accessories and painted them candy apple red and polished others. The basement looked like a 2.8 exploded. This was in the winter mind you and we were painting in freezing weather in a car port with heat lamps, on the bay I can't believe it worked, but it did.
The only prob was putting it all back together. Someone forgot to put the bolts in a bag and label them. So we went to Pull-a-part and rouged all the bolts off a 2.8 and labeled them in baggies and put the car back together. The car was down for over 3 monthes. We decided to rebuild the suspension at the same time. We had to wait on my Eibach springs for over a month before we could put it all back together. I did the headlight mod at the same time. And not soon after joined thirdgen.org. Man how time flies.
