Cars looks better without the side molding but you risk some idiot door dinging you. No big deal, just have to be a little more cautious of where you park your car in a parking lot. I plan on going with sort of a compromise - slimmer door moldings from a 4th gen bird since 4th gen and 3rd gen doors are the exact same length.

I think the original poster means the black quarter inch wide plastic strip above the windows on hardtops.. Its so minimal and with all the black weatherstrip around the window I don't think anyone would even notice if it wasn't there.

thinkin' about removing mine as well. Last time I was at a show...someone asked me what happend to my drip rails. Long ago, before I painted it...I locked my keys in the car...and the only way to get in was through the window/drip rail area....so they are a little scrapped up. Crazy how people point out something that's hardly noticable.
I can just simply remove these...right? It's been along time since i looked....but I think they are just held on with screws.....

Ok, its not the side molding. Anyone have a close up pic of what this is? Perhaps a previous owner removed mine. I have a hardtop but I'm not seeing anything that looks like its optional around the windows.

H Yes they are screwed on, you gotta remove the weatherstripping because its underneath it. Thats how i got to mines plus my weatherstripping needs to be replaced anyways.

This is not a close-up but you can still see it.Its the black thin rail that runs along with the weatherstripping on the top against the the paint and then down the pillar to the hood.

No, it seems they were kind of standard on Camaros and not on Firebirds. Of all the 3rd gens we have here, all of the camaros have them and only an 83 Trans Am has them. the rest of the pontiacs don't. All these cars are hardtops.

Don't have them on mine, seems that most Birds don't have them. Looks cleaner without. Later.
