i went with a black leather wrapped hurst shift knob for my 5 spd firebird. The same one in hte hurst shifter equpipped ram air trans ams, its a direct bolt on, no rethreading or cutting needed. Go to your local dealer and get one, if u dont want the hurst one than go through slp, they have one thats black leather wrapped and the identical design as the hurst knob only with slp's logo

Here's the shift knob I bought for my GTA. I got it from Mallory Billet Aluminum:

I love it. I'm planning to get one for my IROC too.

I got an eight ball shift knob down at Auto Zone... It's a little bigger than the stock knob for my car, but it looks slick and it was easy to install. They told me it wouldn't fit, but it had nylon threads of a slightly smaller size, so I just leaned on it hard and turned it to cut my own threads. A little dab of epoxy stops it from spinning off and it's still removable.

If you want to go the 8-ball route, I've got another idea. Make your own. When I was in high school, I paid $5 for an 8-ball from a sporting goods store, drilled it & tapped it, spun it on and have been enjoying it since. It's very comfortable, and doesn't get hot/cold like my aluminum knob. I really like it.
