My 1985 Z28 Camaro Build
Hi guys! Ive been a long time visitor but since my build is finally coming along I figured i should join the community. I wish i would of joined sooner! But anyway here are a some pictures showing the progress of my build.
Pulling the old and tired LB9 out.
Tearing the body apart for the repaint.
Straightening out the door dings.
Spraying the primer surfacer.
Got the all the jams and engine bay sprayed.
Getting the new Stinger Fiberglass front bumper cover mounted and lined up.
After I finished doing the antenna delete and finished all the prep work it was ready to be sprayed.
Ill post the pictures of it getting sprayed a little later.

Thanks guys! I think I maybe should of put this in the Members Camaros Section but I though id wait till the car was somewhat done till I start a thread for it there. The wheels are actually Bullit Replicas. Idk why but I just love those wheels and for some reason I think they really complement the car too. But I always thought the car sat too high though. You cant tell from these pictures since the car is completely stripped out. I want atleast IROC height so ill probably end up getting the Eibach Pro Kit.
But yea the big antenna always bugged me and you really don't need em with mini amplified antennas you can mount hidden.
Here are some pictures of it getting sprayed.
I sprayed the car with sealer then sprayed the white in the center sections for the stripes. After that flashed off dry the hood was mounted on the car for masking the stripes so I could be sure the stripes would line up from the front end to the hood. It was very tedious to get perfect.
After I got done masking the stripes and re cleaned and tacked the surface I sprayed the base. For costing 376 dollars a quart it sure could of covered better .
After that I let the paint flash dry to the touch and pulled off all the stripe masking. Then I just had to tack the car and spray the clear! I took these pics after 1 coat of clear.
After I got 3 heavy coats of clear on I let it bake for 40 Minutes at 140 degrees and let it sit overnight. The next day I rolled it out of booth and took a couple pictures.
Im probably gonna end up cutting the whole car and re clearing it for that ultimate show car depth of gloss. Still got to paint the ground effects,door handles, fuel door, and stuff like that. Got some plans for the interior too.
Ill post info on the engine build a little later too. Let me know what you guys think! Thanks

Wow the paint looks amazing! Such a nice deep red color. Man your car is gonna look killer when it's done, awesome job.

Thanks for the kind words guys! Means alot! IF anyone wants to know the exact colors let me know. Ive been thinking im going to go with an emblem delete for this car. I think with the stripes the the emblems on the nose and rear bumper will look out of place. I also think these cars look cleaner without the side skirt emblems deleted. What do you guys think?

I usually don't like stripes but those look killer! also what's that called with the pins in the door? Can big dents be taken out like that?

Thanks! And its called a stud welder dent pulling system. The stud welder itself is sometimes called a spitznagel. Google it for more info. You can remove pretty big dents with it if you know where to weld the studs and what sequence to pull on them. Just gotta be careful so you don't pull the stud off the door and leave a small hole. Works very well.

Good eye! The hood wasn't lined up completely in those pictures so when spent some time lining the hood up its less noticeable. But its still not quite perfect. I don't get how it happened. I might end up re doing the stripes on the hood . No opinions on the emblem deletes?

Looking good man-I love the wheels, but wish they had some dish to them at least in the rear. Over all the car is coming along nice. I am a huge fan of bright red cars.

Wow, that paint is KILLER! Love the stripes.
I say keep the emblems. The front emblem will fit nicely in between the stripes, but the Chevrolet logo should be kept off the grille. It would overlap the stripes.
Also, do you plan to paint the headlight buckets black?

Yes im going to bead blast the headlight buckets and the springs that hold the buckets in and spray them gloss black. As far as headlights im eventually going to do a FX-R HID retrofit. And for the grill I think im going to make a custom one that just covers the holes on both sides of the license plate spot.

Any up dates on this build? Trying to see how that fiberglass front turned out. Pictures # 5 show ground effect area of bumper sticking out from fenders. How was this resolved?

But the ground effects were not fastened on to the fenders yet in that picture, that is why they were sticking out.

I am going to bring this back form the dead lol. How was the fit and finish of the front end? I am looking to swap to a more sturdy front end without all the weight and I am not really looking to go full 1 piece front end. I need something to withstand 180+MPH and not worry about running it over.

I am going to bring this back form the dead lol. How was the fit and finish of the front end? I am looking to swap to a more sturdy front end without all the weight and I am not really looking to go full 1 piece front end. I need something to withstand 180+MPH and not worry about running it over.

Just to clarify to everyone wondering why the Stinger front ends spoilers are not sitting tight against the fender. I left the brackets off so there was a gap I could spray paint in between the fender and fiberglass spoiler. Once the brackets are on it sits tight against the fender and looks factory. I highly recommend the Stinger Fiberglass front end to everyone.
