Firebird/Camaro hatch fitment

My neighbors 92 firebird was damaged in a tornado. The back glass was busted out. I would like to find out if a Camaro hatch is a direct fitment or if i am doing something wrong. I purchased one froman older Camaro, but I am unsure of which year.

The problem is that the hatch pull down motor will not grab the hatch and pull it down. It seems to hit something and then will not reach the lever that activates the pull-down motor. Is there some sort of adjustment? Also, where does the rear defrost hook up to in the 92 firebird. I didnt remove the old one so I cannot find the connectors.

thanks

The pull down strike (loop thingy on the lid) is probably the wrong one. I don't know exactly what year they changed the design ('90 maybe )but, you'll need the strike.
The 1st design was made from round stock and bent into the loop shape, the 2nd appears to just be a stamped piece of ¼" metal. You will need to find the 2nd design somewhere and botl it in place of what is on there now.
Rear defrost wiring/power runs through the hatch struts.

Thank you deadbird. That is exactly what the problem was. We just used the one from the broken hatch. Now it fits perfectly.

Please explain how the wiring for the defrost runs through the hatch struts. I still cant figure that one out.

Thanks again
Brian

Its all oin the struts..

The struts themselves should have plugs on them, one on each end, which plugs into the plugs comming out on each side of the hatch, the struts just work as a extension of the wire
