Corvette Tail light conversion?
Anyone seen (or know where to get) the corvette tail light/bumper conversion. I've seen a few guys have it down the road at carlisle, PA I don't know how they did it either but the whole rear end of the camaro almost looks like a vette, with roll-pan style bumper and corvette tails. It looks sweet as all hell. Also, any websites that have pic? Thanks!

I think its made by Motion Glass Industries. I think the piece is $199. They dont have a website but you can call and get a catalog. They are the builders of the famous Balwin Motion Camaros, Chevelles and Vette's of the 60' and 70's. Great catalog, including wide-body kit, notchback, zr1 taillight, etc.

Only thing about the C4/ZR1 taillight mod is there is no reverse light. So you might have to do additional mods for the conversion to be street legal in your state. Good luck!!

I saw the red one at Carlisle that I think you're talking about. I just don't understand how anybody can like that conversion. You can still see the outline of the original tail lights, so it's not like it really fools anybody. I only saw one conversion that looked worth a damn. They modified the whole rear section to completely remove any trace of the original tail light cutout, and molded the vette light sockets into the rear clip. It still looked out of place because the entire rear bumper area doesn't flow properly with that tail light style, but at least it didn't look like stock tail lights with a couple cut-up tail light covers over it. Somebody posted pics of it here a long time ago, so doing a search might bring it up.

jim, no offense intended, i have no problems with you at all, i think you have a pretty good head on your shoulders. We've both managed to be on the same boards for what 4 or 5 years now without clashing significantly, and although we've never met, i have no doubts that we'd get along just fine if we did. But if you don't like the corvette taillights, then don't come into every freaking post regarding it. No one is forcing your hand to click the mouse. I've read your opinion on them at least half a dozen times already. different people like different stuff, it's not like you're the end all authority on what is and is not good on a thirdgen camaro. If a person owns the car, it's their possession, and they can do with it whatever they choose.
You're starting to get like stu with the black headlight bucket comment, ever post and picture of my car and he has to say something. He sounds like a broken record, and you're getting there too.
if we never tried anything new, i think this site would get boring pretty damn fast.
you're not the first person to dislike them, nor will you be the last, but people other than myself obviously like them with the constant posts on here, the 2 or 3 emails i get each month, and the 4 people who stopped me asking details in wildwood. :lala:

Wraith, you're right... I think we would get along fine. We just happen to strongly disagree on this particular mod. No harm, no foul. Whether or not I like it isn't really important. What I felt was important (at least to the same extent as the reasons that you like it) was why I don't like it. For every time you've read my opinion on this, I've read yours. 2 way street dude.

Alas! The mysterious Cormaro APPEARS!
Hey, that's the car that I think I saw at Carlisle last year, isn't it? Cool. BTW the mod that I am particularly looking for actually Modded the ENTIRE rear so where your bumper is, the taillights came out to the end of the "RS" spoiler and down flush with the bumper without seams. I think the one taht I saw actually had what looked like a CUT-OUT rear end of a 90ish 'vette. It even had the roll-pan like (I think its) the C5? Anyway, that's a neat looking mod 'cause noone else has really done it yet. I think a 'lil bit of fibreglass and some good work might do what I want with the setup like you have there on your pic. Thanks ALOT dude!!! I just wanna say, WOW, all the PA people are very helpful on here. I think we all should get together for GM @ Carlisle next year guys!! What you all think?

That being said, I'm not exactly sure if I am fond of the vette taillights. I think that I would be if it wasn't so much of a cover. Like Jim said, if someone modified the back to make it flow with the body more smoothly. Also losing the spoiler altogether would make for an interesting look.

The cars pictured with the vette lights dont look right at all to me,
they might look alot better with the spoilers removed, and the gaps between the quarters and the bumpers filled, possibly a GTA type spoiler would work with something like that, but nothing I would do to my Iroc.
Just my thoughts!

the bottom two bolts are APC lights (***** crap), and i have them wired up as reverse lights. I'll eventually come up with a better solution, but they are visible enough for now.

someone sent me this picture some time ago.
it's with a high rise and the gaps filled in. If i had that spoiler, i'd definitely do the same. it's just not so easy with the iroc style spoiler.

Thanks wraith, thats just about what I was lookin for. I think that even with our iroc style spoiler, this could look even better, if we did it right. I'm going to go get some fiberglass stuff and start construting my own rear. I think that I am going to chop the bumper and roll pan it, like a REAL vette. I'll include some reverse lights at bottom. Like Fog lights in the rear for backup. Same round pattern, and I'll be able to see better!!!

FYI, the car I saw at carlisle is different than the one that Vader posted. It's actually a great looking car except for the double-stacked firebird spoilers and the tail lights. I have a couple pics of it uploaded, but not of the tail lights. I'll try to find time to upload the pic this weekend.
Here's a pic of the car:

Oh, and before anyone asks (because they always do), the way you get into the trunk of that Firebird is the rear glass itself opens, like on a Corvette.

In my opinion, for corvette lights to look "in place" on our cars, we would have to redo the rear bumper as well to closer match that of a vette. Have you guys ever seen the C8 Camaros? they have the kinda bumper I'm referring too. As in the pic below, the bumper just kinda 'bulges' a little, instead of coming out kinda like a shelf (like on our cars). Corvette tails would work better with a bumper that shape I think.

ZR-1 Taillights ARGH!!!!
I’ve been desperately trying to get a hold of motion performance regarding an iroc-z custom tail section with zr-1 lights…the phone numbers I get don’t work, can someone email me back with a phone number at djlee@theelectricfront.com
I want a clip like this so i can customize it further, and roll pan my bumper possibly. id actually like this back clip, but with the round rear taillights of the 1970 camaro with the backups in the centre of the inner circled lights....hell the license plate is even in the right spot!

side blinkers solved
side blinkers solved, all i have to do is find a couple firebird lower quarters and put them in the same place on my camaro quarters, just weld them in....
as for the backup lights im wondering when i get the zr-1 tail if i can cut out the back part where the licence plate is, and make it more recessed, eg. where it site now....and if i can say widen the opening for the plate so as to accomodate the vette reverse lights that surround the plate hmm....
btw, didnt someone say they made a braket out of old camaro lights?

I was going down the interstate awhile back. I happened to look out my passenger window, and there was a thirdgen. It had what looked like a C4 tailsection. Not just a piece that fits over the lights. But what looked like the rear bumper as well. It looked really good. I would have flagged him down to talk about it. But he was on the off ramp.

Ya know, I thought that would be hideous as hell when I read the thread title. But, it doesn't look bad at all, kinda cool really. Kind of brings a retro '70 1/2- '73 look to it. I don't think I'd do it, but it looks good.

*** id love to fit the whole vette rear end on, i measured them and theyre SOOOO close, both 63.5 inches wide, and similar height, the main difference is that the bumper on the iroc sticks out, you would have to roll pan it or something, and i cant find a kit, or someone to do it right for me
i also wouldnt mind putting the round 70 camaro lights in the back of this clip im buying, however i think it would cost major bux to alter it
i wish there was a roll pan or something, if i knew a damn about how to do fiberglass myself, i would make it by altering a vetter rear end since the dimensions are close, or make the 70 camaro back panel (that would solve the backup light problem as well.
i wish you HAD got ahold of the guy who had the vette rear end on! hel i even saw a pic online of a guy with a fiero with a well done vetter rear end! looked like hell from the side though heh.
if you guys know how to solve any of this lemme know or send me links, you guys have been great help to me in decision making already, and ive only been on this board for 36 hours!
i also gotta get some vents, or figure out how to vent my car, the headers and rebuilt carbed 355 monster under the hood is wayyyyy to hot (though the engine itself runs around 110). i was hoping to keep the classy louvers on my hood, maybe router the backside of the depth of them, then have someone chrome them, and make them functional by cutting a hole in the hood under them.
also im going 3 7 3 gears next thursday, im playing with the idea of 4 10 anyone have 410? is it hard to drive on the highway?
(ps if you guys know where i can find a seatbelt clip for my passenger headliner in black, or a black leather interior from a camaro or vette, lemme know!) this forum rules!
