Moderators, if ya like this enough I don’t care if you make it a sticky. Alright guys, there has always been a dilemma with our t-tops, we had to store them in a stupid bag. Well guys, those days are over. All you need is about $20 for the entire kit. More updates soon to come guys. Tools Needed- Saw (Hand or Electric) Screwdriver Measuring Tape Drill Items Needed- 4ft 2x4 Sub Box Carpeting (or any carpet will work fine) 4 2in Screws 4 Washers Drill bit (as thick needed to get the screw through) Instructions, Step 1 Your t-tops off and stick one in the well, the lock part down as shown in the image. You might notice the well seems too thin for the t-top but it’s actually perfect, it hold the bottom in place for you. Step 2 Cut the 2x4 to 42"(maybe 41.5") Step 3 Place the 2x4 in front of the t-top as shown in the above image. Step 4 Get the second t-top, place it in there the same way you did the first one (locking part down). It will end up looking like this, Step 5 Get you’re Sub Box Carpet and cover the 2x4 with carpet, this will prevent the t-tops from getting scratched. Step 6 (there are two way to mount your choice) 1st Way- Take Mark the edges of the 2x4 on the plastic panels next to them, this is how we will be securing the 2x4. Once this is done take both t-tops out. Now that you see your marks on the plastic try to drill 2 holes like this between the marks, [img] http://www.ls1camaro.net/freehosting/screw holes.JPG[/img] Once this has been done to both sides, place the 2x4 back into place and screw the screw through the holes into the 2x4. This will Secure the 2x4 2nd Way- The drawback to the first way is that it’s mounting to the spare time panel. Which could be time consuming to remove, but it is easier to install that way. You Make your marks on the plastic, make them removable marks, and take out the t-tops. Put the 2x4 back in, and 2 holes on each side into the car, this is how you can also mount it. Then get your 2in screws and screw them in. If you want to get nut and bolt screw to that is will be a tad more secure, but it’s not needed. Walla, your 2x4 is mounted perfectly for the project. Last Step Admire the work you have completed. I have not yet covered my 2x4 in carpet since I got to go get some and the shop is closed on Sunday so that’s a no go. How come everytime you post a topic you get angry because people don't like what you did? It's not out fault it hurts our eyeballs.

My suggestion is before you post pics of something make it look good, then maybe show how you got it there. What you are showing us is your ability to screw a 2x4 to your car. Did you expect a standing ovation?

And how's it supposed to stop the tops from moving around when you brake hard? It looks like the back one has a lot of room to move.

nah go out side to your car and try it, those tops sit down in the bottom of the well very tight. I'd like to see you brake hard enough for them to move. If you did you prolly got bigger worrries, cuase you were prolly in an accident.


You guys will see, i wasn't getting upset, i was sorta laughiong when i said that. You guys just never know when to give a man atleast some credit for his effort. Tomorow i will be going to a fabric store to pick up something to cover it with and that way it will look better.

The reason i posted it before it was completed was jst to show you guythat i did it, and what i did so far. I had aaid that it would be completed later, becuase the fabric store was closed. It'll be done tomorow guys, just wait.

Yee Haw Cletus, I dun stuck a 2x4 in muh reah hatch. Big f*ckin deal. While you're at it, take a few sections of that 2X4 and stick them in your rear springs. Then you'll be "jacked up like a motha" all the while keeping that thirdgen hillbilly stigma.

It just doesn't make any sense. You seem to have a good T-Top bag there, and I've never had a problem putting the TTops in the bag, so why put a 2x4 in the wheel well when the car already has a way to hold the T-Tops?

What's next, replace the carpeting with vinyl siding because it cleans up easier

if you wanan get technical the car isn't what hold the t-tops, its the bad. But the way i'm doing it the car will be holding them. I gues i shoulda posted after the carpet. Mighta made a little bit better of an appearance. I dunno. I think i still got the point across.

to cover up the 2x4 which everyone but me and a few others seem to hate, u could always get a well cover, and cut 2 slots in it and fit it over the ends of the t-tops so the tops stick out of it

Just why is the bag stupid? Now you've rendered that part of your trunk useless...at least while you have the t-tops in the bag they lay flat so you can put a few things on top of them and still fit a few things in the well. I suppose you had good intentions, but I never saw what was wrong with the original way.

If he does not want trunk space then oh well, it's his car, I do not have T-Tops so i could only imagine what it would be like. But Think about when you mount speakers and things like that back there. You really lose trunk space. I hardly ever use my trunk anyways.

Honestly, I think your work is promising. I must admit, beginning any car project utilizing a 2x4 sounds quite disastrous in many respects....but I'm definitely willing to offer you the benefit of a doubt that there's more in your plans than just what you posted here. In the future I think it would be a good idea to post only your polished, clean, completed build rather than a barely begun project.

Personally I think a removable wooden stand covered in matching interior carpet would work quite well and wouldn't be terribly hard to engineer. "Removable" being the key word there, I certainly wouldn't want that contraption as a permanent fixture in my car.

Just out of idle curiosity, what's wrong with the bag? I absolutely love the t-top bag myself and prefer it.

If there are subs back there, that is different. What he did was do something that isn't exactly necessary. Even with subs you don't have them sticking up claiming unecessary space...generally when subs are placed back there they're flat, still allowing you for some storage.

Even if you have subs you can still store the ttops.

A downfiring box that lays flush with the cargo area keeps plenty of room for the ttops in the bag.

My bad is ripped to peices and i have it sowed to gether. Look in them pics and you can see the thread. I hate my bad.

My idea now is to make it removable and to only be there to separte the t-tops. My plan now it compeltely different.

uhhh.. heres a better idea..



take 4 small squares of metal plate.

drill a hole in each so they JUST fit the locking pins for the Ttops.
then weld them to some tube that goes down... and comes up witha bend or somthing..... then pad the tube neatly and it will look made to do it.
and not wood.


basicly make the same locking thing the 4thgens ahve, but for a 3rdgen..... its simple and id make one buuuut.


i have a vert, and by some wierd quinkeydink, every 3rdgen member in my fbody club also has a vert... (except one kid, but i dont see him too often...)

Looks as good as having a 2x4 holding the hatch up I'd say go to the local boneyard (or auto store) and find some carpet that matches your color. Then cover the 2x4 with the carpet and will look a lot better

And spend way more on metal tubing than a 2x4.....Right
