I'm trying to decide on gauges -- I'm fairly certain I'm going with Autometer Ultra-Lites, but now I'm trying to decide on mounting. I really don't want to mount them anywhere but above the steering wheel. Making a custom area won't be a problem. My question is, does anyone use 3 3/8 speedo and tach's? I know some people say they are on the small side, but it would free up space to mount more gauges there. Just looking for info and maybe pics if anyone has some. Thanks.

I chose to use the 3 3/8 gauges because if I used the 5" ones I wouldnt be albe to fit the other 4 2 1/16th gauges in the gauge cluster. I still wanted to keep my warning indicators, SES light and blinkers so I had to mock fit circles around all those things an dI ended up having to use the 3 3/8 ones which are not that bad looking.

I've got the same ones, just mounted a little differently though. I can email pictures if you want. I left enough room on my carbon fiber panel so if i want to later on down the road, i can go with the 5" guages. Its just at the time of purchase, money was an issue. I really wanted a memory tach, but i was already looking at $600+ for my guages and misc. crap from Autometer. later

Flyersman29 -- did you use abs to make that panel, or I guess it kind of looks powdercoated. Hard to tell these things from pics sometimes.

I took the 4th gen dash out. I started hating the way it looked. It didnt match the lines of the car and didnt match the theme I was going for with the car. The stock 91 dash is going back in along with that new Auto Meter gauge cluster. I used the stock housing bracket, trim and outer trim. Basically I just took the clear lens off along with the gauges and then made my own flat panel with holes cut in them. when its all done, the cluster will bolt right back into the dash like normal. I also cut the square in the middle and then cut the high beam indicator and blinkers off the cluster and glued the cutout to the new panel I made. I did the same with the SES and brake light in the top right corner.

Oh man! No more 4th gen interior?! I thought you did such a superb job installing it and looked quite nice in your car! Well, the 91/92 dash with the AM gauges will look killer, too. Do you have any components from the 4th gen setup left? I still need a top dash pad ( I have an absolutely flawless 3rd gen one, but I assume you've got one already), a glove box door, and lower driver's side kick panel. Lemme know via a post, pm, or email

I do not have anything left from the 4th gen dash. I need a 3rd gen cover though if the price is right.

I bolted the dash up, and there appears to be a large gap between the top of the column and the bottom of the gauges/gauge trim. Did you get the top left hole to bolt up? It was tough but I got it up there, am I not supposed to? Any info from your swap would be very helpful (should have PMed this, but those are unreliable). Hey everyone with the Autometer gauges in the dash. How hard was it to wire up all the gauges? did you wire it into the factory dash harness or did you have to run all new wires? also for the stock wires that are left over what did you do with them? if you had to run all new wires, what did you do with the old stuff? im startin to get the gauges together here, i just need the oil press., water temp, electric speedo, and tach and then the dash piece from Covan's. i just want to know what im gettin myself into wireing wise. im good at wiring stuff up as long as i know what needs to be done. thanx guys sorry if its a little off topic.

tpiroc, as far as the dash goes, I didnt use all the bolt holes on the top of the dash. I actuallyhad to trim a few off to get the cover to fit. I think I used 3 to hold the dash to the frewall.

As for the gauges, I am using my stock wires from the dash. I already had a 4th gen dash hooked up soi I already know what wires go to what so it shouldnt be to hard to connect them to the matching wire on the new gauges. The left over wires are just cut clean and taped up. There shouldnt be to many left over wires though. Just the wires for the cluster lights and maybe some warning light indicators wil be left over. I am still my turn signals and high beam ind. along with the SES light and brake light.

I bought a wiring harness form painless wiring, best investment! It not only looks nicer than what i had originally did myself, but it is very easy to install. All you need to do is to wire up your stock wires to the painless harness by pinning them into painless' connectors. Sounds easier than it is though. Just time consuming. What is helping me is that i got a shop manual for my car with pretty good diagrams. Chilton's is only good for wiping your ***! good luck

so painless sells a wiring harness for autometer gauge set ups like in our cars? how much was it and is it in jegs or would i have to order it right from painless?

So that's to say you didn't have to cut that U shaped piece out? [again, sorry to hijack the thread]
