3M release agent for removing ttop weatherstrip adhesive???????

Anyone ever use 3M release agent p/n 08879 or p/n 08971 for softening the adhesive for easy weatherstripping removal? Does it actually work like it says, Softens adhesive for easier removal? Is it safe on the painted surfaces of the car? Where did you get it besides the internet? can't find it in any local store.

What I used to remove mine was a good automotive wax & grease remover. I used 3M DX330. let it soak in a bit . I got all the surfaces clean.

Does the wax and grease remover soften the weatherstrip adhesive enough so that I can take off the weatherstripping without tearing it so that it can be reused? My t-top weatherstripping is still in great condition but I have several leakes I need to fix and would like to reuse the stripping for the time being since its still good.

what I would do in your case then is pull it back where is has become loose. and clean those areas and re apply the adheasive. (both types) there is the yellow high strength and the regular black stuff. the yellow is more liquid and will flow to where it is needed. Yes the 3M DX330 will soften the adheasive. but ya you might still tear your weather strip.. the sides are bonded very well.

yes they will rip no matter what you do and reusing a ripped strip is bad news.

like previuosly posted if you can spot where thewater is getting in pull back the leading outside edge of the strip in fill in at the bottom with the adhesive.
