Engine Compartment Repainted and custom work done! check it out
Hey everyone. I wanted to keep a thread updated as my engine compartment progressed, but I had some computer related problems that kept me from doing so. I'll start off with a before pic
__________________ Bright Platinum Metallic with painted hoodbird, 17x9 Year One Snowflake Wheels, smoothed inner fenders, shaved door locks and antenna. Black leather interior.
Current Drivetrain: LT1 and T56 with SLP 1 3/4" primary headers and catback, Borg Warner 9-bolt.
I changed my mind at the last minute and went with Chrysler Platinum (Same as Flyinlow89's T/A). The second pic is with the flash on and shows how the course metallic flake really brightens it up when lit. I was originally going to go with GM Pewter Metallic.
Here are some closeups. First to identify what custom work was done makes me feel good about spending sooo much money on it! lol
And one more to show the shine and express my opinion of the results!
Sorry for all the pics, i'm just so friggin happy about it! Let me know what you all think
thanks guys. I'm swapping a 350 TPI into it with some edelbrock headers in about a week or so from an 88 Formula. And yes Tom, the ceramic coating that you're doing up for me sure will look nice in there :-).
looks good, like the finish, i hope i can get mine cleaned up that nice, if you have seen my threads, you have an idea of how ruff my baby is right now, but damn, that is looking nice, keep the updates coming!

Thats good to hear. Your def gonna feel all that low end tq, The L98 is very fun and cool lookin intake design. If the engine your puttin is a good runnin one, with a couple of good mods youll be in the high 13s easily. Post some pix when you bolt the engine. later
I don't think the pics are any bigger there though. If you want higher resolution ones, Private Message me and I can e-mail them to you.
Mirage, thanks for the compliments. I have seen your bird and man I can't believe the amount of work you're putting into it. Looks like you're making good progress though

Actually its possible with the headers alone he can run a high 13....my completely stock TPI ran a 14.1(est)
I won't speculate on how it will perform... I figure I'll just hit up a track as soon as I can after it's running :-). Unfortunately, the only local track is 1/8 mile. Here is a quick update on some of the things I worked on while the bird was in the shop being painted.
I've been using POR-15 like crazy! Here is the 9-bolt. The bolts will be either replaced or painted black to match.
Then there's the Non-A/C Heater Box. This was a royal pain! I explained the whole process on my cardomain page. Here is before:
Pretty bad, huh? Here is after:
I didn't want the high-gloss finish on the heater box and the air cleaner lid, so i spray painted them with semi-gloss after using Por-15. Well, I'm off to the garage. I'm laying out the brake lines, treating the k-member and a-arms with POR-15, and replacing the motor mounts. It'll be a long day.
That is awesome, love how you smoothed it out. But i have one question for you, why did you leave the upper strut mounts in when you painted it? I think it would of looked great black to give it some contrast and also, when you get an aligment your going to see a little white where they moved it.
3Gc, the mounts were actually removed when they were painted so the alignment should only require a light touchup if it dug into the paint. I like them being body color because of the odd shape of the mount. The caps on top will be kept black and that'll break it up a bit.
85maroz28, I want to see your new bird in person! I couldn't believe it when Flyinlow89 decided to sell. Everyone else, thanks for the compliments. Pics with the engine in shouldn't be too far off. I'm spending many hours trying to get this thing in one peice before i move into a new place next month. It has a 2.5 car garage! :-)
