What material to recover my door panels/headliner/sail panels???

Over the winter, I am planning to refurbish my interior. I know it's a ways off still, but I want to be ready! I have the GTA deluxe door panels in the pic below. I'm filling the hole in the drivers door with my power mirror switch and also dying the vinyl part black to match my interior plastics. Here's the thing i'm thinking about...

I'm going to have the door panel inserts match the new headliner and sail panel speaker covers that i'm also planning to do. My first thought was to use a dark gray/charcoal colored headliner cloth material. Then I thought about using the same colored vinyl instead. It would be high quality stuff that looks like leather. First, which material choice do you think would look better? If I use the vinyl, would it look better smooth on the door panel inserts or would it look cool kinda squished up... I've seen it on some newer cars where there are vertical ripples and it makes it look very plush. Let me know what you all think. All opinions welcome

When you finally get around to doing this project, if I were you I'd write up a tech article on how to redo the GTA door panels. There are (I'm sure) a lot of people who would kill to know how to redo the panels themselves (like me... mine are falling apart at the plastic door handle inserts! ).

Personally, I like the idea of keeping the panels nearly the same as they are now, with the headliner cloth in the fabric part and vinyl over the rest.

What, no option for "FUR"... lol... sorry I had to do it...

I second the headliner on the sail panels and the vinyl on the door panels.

go with tweed i love my tweed headliner and sail panels, they look nice and will stand up to everything but the sun, since a headliner never gets sun on it, go for it.

I want something with a soft/smooth texture, so tweed is out. I'm keeping the vinyl that's on the panel already and dying it black, just replacing the center section to clarify in case anyone didn't understand. Even jsut replacing the center section will be tough due to it being overlapped by the vinyl around the perimiter, but i think i'll be able to overcome that by gently pulling the vinyl away from the panel and adhering it back when I'm finished.
