Weighed in some stuff I took off my car today. Passenger side bracket off serpentine setup was 20lbs (included all iron support braces), but that included the smog pump, which roughly weighs 7lbs, and my AC delete pulley. Figure right around 11-12lbs for the bracket. Just verifying what nape said since I gave him that number earlier tonight
Stock starter was 18.5lbs without solenoid and 20lbs with solenoid. Take into account my scale is only accurate to about .5lb.
Oh, the crappy stock foam spoiler on TA's weighs in at a hefty 29.5lbs. That's no longer on my car Might be replacing with a spoiler off a '91 Ford Probe GL if the width is about right.
The stock N64 spare tire/jack combo weighed in at close to 40lbs.
My AC stuff didn't weigh as much as many people claim if I remember right.

Yeah, that stock spoiler is absolute garbage and it's heavy. That went in the trash right away.
People always overclaim on the AC so don't worry about it seeming lighter then what's commonly said, it is.
My A/C stuff weighed in at I think 45 lbs for the condenser, accumulator, pump and lines. I have it written down somewhere. The A/C box came out later and the regular heater box was installed, I'd imagine a couple lbs were saved there too taking out the evaporator.
i want to say they are like 18lbs. you only save like 5lbs. of stationary weight, but, because it's rotating weight, it's like taking 50lbs. off the car.

I don't know about a multiple of 10 like that...the driveshaft is only like 3" in diameter which means that weight is only 1.5" from the axis of rotation. Nevertheless, less rotating weight, the better. They make carbon fiber ones too
anyone know the formula for what rotating weight is next to stationary weight? i know wheels is like 10:1 or something close to that.
carbon fiber is a very expensive option, but very cool. my buddy has one in his 81 malibu station wagon. it's EXTREMELY light! but i have heard some controversy over it's use on the street. some say it's fine, other say they grow and will cause damage to the tranny. Africkingoodtime/vsixer/RTFC/whatever the hell his name is now (how many times has he been banned anyway? LOL!) has had one on his wife's daily driver now for over 3 years with no problems whatsoever. unfortunatly, i will not have $800 to shell out on a CF driveshaft anytime soon. i think by the time i am to the point that i can spend that kinda money on something so simple,(as in, not a tranny/converter/rearend {what i am doing now}) i will probably buy an old 4 banger 5speed s10 or something so that this car isn't on the street all the time!
im not to sure i have a Aluminum Drive Shaft it seems really light but id like to know if it is... i dont have that code on my rpos for it but the owner before did alot of things to it so maybe it is?
hey mw66nova, my '86 sports coupe is now down to 3220lbs with me in it with a little below 1/2 tank of gas. I only weigh 140lbs though....the car is 3080lbs without me in it. The mods I have done so far should give me low 13's with good traction even at our 5280ft elevation here in denver. I can get it lighter because it still has the stock hood, stock seats with drivers side 6way pwr crap, stock wheels, its all pwr(windows, locks, mirrors, rear hatch). If i decide to get rid of those i bet i'll be under 3000lbs with me in it!
Excellent! glad to see someone else is light! i still have stock wheels as well, i bet if you put a glass hood on the car, it would weight right around the same as mine, which is 3045. i am putting an aluminum ds and some aftermarket wheels and i should be under 3000, probably real close to 2900lbs with some other ideas i have (i'm not telling!) but i weigh almost 260lbs. so. i guess if i lost about 75lbs, it would be good, but that ain't happenin'!
mw66nova, I emailed you some pics of my sport coupe and as you always say....those cars look killer without gfx if they are clean, have the right tire/wheel combo and most of all, the right stance. Feel free hit me up man and let us talk sports coupes!
P.S- it has currently has 77k orig. mile on it.
your sc is very clean. i like it alot. you coulda fooled me too with the way it looks as far as running deep 13's. it looks like a stock v6 car! it's freakin' clean man!
ooh, ooh! how much do the stock wheels weigh? any idea what the weight of a 15x5 and 15x8 draglite is? i just picked up a set online here tonight!

Which formula wheels are those? I know that my 16x8 “high tech” formula wheels with some Goodyear 245/50/16 tires weigh 54# front and 56# rear. My set of set of the very similar 15x7 “firebird” rims weighs 34# front with 215/65/15 and 39# rear with 275/60/15 BFG DR’s
Frees up HP because its less rotating mass (i.e. takes less power to turn something lighter).
Here's a kicker too. I weighed in the 16x8 salad shooters before I put my winters on them, and they were 19-19.5lbs each. The 17x9 10-spoke SS wheels were 21-22lbs each if I remember right.
I hope I'm on the right thread but does anybody know who makes a kit to replace the rear glass with lexan I know S&W racecars used to have one listed when I didn't have a third gen now I didn't see one listed now that I would like to get one I know that has to remove a fair amount of weight I need to compensate for my fat a$$
I knew I'd save at least a few pounds when I finally put that LT1 intake on. Not to mention, the LT1 aluminum heads that will go on as well as headers That'll save me like 60-70lbs altogether.

A Dynabatt is just a rebadged model of either of these batteries.
Checked out those batteries. There alot cheaper than the Dyna-Batt. Thanks for the info.
One thing I notice about the Genesis G16EP, the Hawker Odyssey PC680, and the Dynabatt is that they are all tall and skinny. Will they fit in the thirdgen battery tray with no problems?

You'll probably have to fab some way to hold them down.
My idea was just going to be to use whatever holes were already in the battery tray and use some metal strap [used to hang garage door openers] to tie it down.

from what i gather, not alot less than stock, and they are ugly as sin. besides, your taking weight off the wrong end of the car. you want SOME weight back there to help with traction. try to get most off the front before you worry about they back.

I would have to disagree with that, considering the fact that the notch backs have alot less window glass. The large window glass of a thirdgen is very heavy.

Not sure if it's the lightest light weight starter, but I put a Turbobuicks.com ministarter in my car and it was a significant weight difference.
I also just changed out my standard battery with a 13lb Hawker Odyessy PC680 battery. Cost me $120 local inc. tax and the battery terminals when I had them meet me half way on the www.batterymart.com price.
Just a note to everyone who wants to use the PC680, don't buy the SAE automotive terminals that Hawker offers. They don't say what bolt size and thread pitch fits them and I couldn't find one [tried 12mm in 1.25, 1.5, and 1.75 TP, 7/16 NC, 7/16 NF, 1/2 NC, 1/2 NF, and a ton of others] so I just used the 6mm cap screws supplied with the adapter and a washer.
It was a real easy way to drop 25+ lbs off the front end
The car is definately ready for some Ground Control adj. spring perches up front to get rid of the 3+" fender gap.

just got a set of the aluminum drums that were available on the 91-92 cars. they weighed considereably less than the stock iron units. no idea of the weight reduction cause i have no way to weigh them, but they're light...

Well i finally got my car weighed. During the LS1 conversion i removed a tremendous amount of weight, i have been keeping up with this thread, but yesterday was the first time i had it on a scale. I knew it would be light, but i didn't think it would be this light. I do drive it 3-4 times a week to work, but since i dont have to i dont drive it in the rain.
It came in at 3170 with me (190) in it and a 30lb nitrous bottle that doesnt stay in the car at all times. I have salad shooters at all four corners, along with stock LS1 exhaust manifolds, cats and stock heavy catback and torqe converter. I also have a stock 3rd gen radiator. It was setup just like i always drive it. Now it is time to start buying light weight items.
I plan to replace the stock converter with a 9" converter along with an aluminum radiator, possibly a light weight battery and catback. I already have 3.5" weld drag lites for the front, i just picked up tires for them today so that will be 30lbs as well.
