Steering Column Repair

I believe at some point in its past someone tried to steal my Firebird, the plastic around the steering column is broke, and you can manually engage the starting mechanism.

I'd like to fix this. Is there a repair for this problem, or is a new steering column the way to go.

I've already but a new key cylinder in this, fixed the high beams switch, and put a new stalk on it for the cruise control, but everything is still apart. So if I need to do more work, or even take it out, now is just a good a time as any.

When someone tried to steal mine, they did the same thing. I went to the dealer and ordered a new column shroud, and the other smalle plastic piece under the tilt lever. I read somehwere that "Help" you know the red package stuff at autozone, checker etc. has a part # for their replacement stuff. It may be cheaper than GM, I spent something like $120 for everything. You have to pull the wheel, lock plate, Turn signal switch, and the turn signal stalk. If your tilt column is loose, now is the time to fix it too.
