Your car looks good just as it is..Are U good at air brushing? If not do some on some scrap metal. Before u try it on your car. But I don't really care for flames. I say your car looks good like it is.. But just my 2 cents

i love how it looks , i saw the guy who started doing fire paintjobs on tv, i think it was rides. And it looked awesome .Id like to see it on red or another color besides black . I have thought about having fire put on the hood scoops ,ive seen it on a 4th gen over on ls2.com or ls1tech. and it looked ok .

just isn't the same on any other color. real flames need the black to accent it.

i;ll post up some pics as i get in the process. i have a practice hood and fenders and plenty of left over candy paint so its no loss to try em. i ordered mike lavells killer paint dvd and his stencils. il let you know how the dvd is. i have not airbrushed yet on a real car did some details on models long time ago... but i never painted a car before last year either and it came out great. i always look for new challenges. I am in no way comited to doing blue flames on the candy yet but the test panels will make up my mind on that. i have seen some that were small and not as big as some like the ones they did on rides that would look good. it has less wisps of the flame and not as tight. so it is kinda a mix of old style flame spacing with the true flame flair. looks like fun so i'll let you see how they come out good or bad.

I'd say go for it...with the caveat that you will need to ...PRACTICE>>>PRACTICE>>>PRACTICE!
My artistic skills are pretty rusty, but I can clearly see that truflame effect in all blues.(subtle highlights and shading being the key) It'd look kickass!!!
Of course you wouldn't want to be known as the "Blueflamer"!!!

Edit: I have seen the "trick" they use in this effect...and once you get the hang of it, it looks to be repetitive motion and various stencils, large and small

Those are nice flames. An alternative to flames would be a fire job. I will be taking that approach to my car. It will be white with blue fire. It's definitely not something that is very common. The best fire job I've seen was on Overhaulin' : Black truck with a red/orange/white fire job.

Not a big fan of the 'real flames' though, it's some killer talent to do them.

I personally think a 'real flame' scheme would look killer in the same colors (with different light/dark shades) as the original color. Don't know if that made sense or not...

That blue candy looks mint... I would not mess with it.

If you wanted something different the best way would be to put it UNDER the candy anyhow.... you can do some wicked stuff with tape pulls... regular flames under the candy would look hot....

the best flames I have seen were on Ian Zerring's first gen on overhaulin.... they were done in place of the racing stripes and they went over the flames with candy.... going over it with candy made all the difference in the world. I've seen some really nice subtle ones at Autorama as well... black car with candy flames is pretty much unbeatable. I'm going to give it a shot on my GTP I think.

Checkered flag tape pulls with airbrushed shading on the hood would look hot.

if you could pull of the white hot flames you get from say a laser lighter using greens, blues and white as accents it might just work. trying to do a true flame like above though i think would be a mistake.

thanks there just to many and the same, it should have some hard line or else it does not work but if you look at the pic of the lower section you can see the free hand shield was used on the same shape over and over...needs more random shapes to get realistic.

Yeah, that would be my only complaint too, but daaaaaaayum that came out nice for a first attempt. I'm off searching for the Killerpaints DVD now...

Is this it, or at least similar? Real Flame DVD

If you want a little softer edge, you can hold it (the template) farther away from the panel. A harder edge, hold it tighter to the panel
Or you can mist your edge lightly with the template, and then freehand lightly over it to fog, or ghost, it into submission.

don;t those usually get painted from the inside? that way the paint is protected? it would be almost impossible to do this on the inside since you do paint from the behind flames to the hottest front parts. its basically paint the back first and layering.
