Not the usual 4th Gen dash swap question

Does it affect your legroom in anyway?

It would seem like it would take alot of lower leg room out of the car, which is already kind of tight... Just wondering because I'd like to do an LS1 and 4th Gen interior swap into a 3rd gen (not my current car, I was thinking maybe a 90 IROC)

I'm 6 foot 3, so space is REALLY tight

I'm worried, lol

Having a manual really hurts on the legroom too I noticed (auto 3rdgens almost feel luxurious, lol), and whatever car it goes into will have a 5 spd, so yeah...

Yea I dont like the huge gap where the 4th gen pillars met the dash but the thirgen ones dont come close to filling the hole. I need to fab up something to fill the holes. thats really the only thing. Oh and I really cant get my dash pad to fit quite perfect yet...still more cutting to do.

AWESOME swap! I love how the 4th gen interior looks in the 3th gen. I hope to do the same if I ever get around to tearing the entire car down for rewire & paint.

on the phone w/ my girlfriend, and she's the one who normally rides in the passenger seat....She did mention the leg-room on the pass. side was comprimised by the new dash....on the drivers side, i've never noticed a bit of difference. I've also done several seat swaps, and my sitting position changes w/ each change in the seats.

How much cutting does the fourth gen dash swap take? I like the third gen dash, but the console is mediocure and I dislike the door panels. I'd like to swap out the door panels at least but I don't want it to look out of place so if need be I'd be willing to replace the dash.

The door panels actually fit very well. You have to cut off the little j-hooks on the back of th panel first. then I cut the little lip in front of the panel that faces the front of the car. Gives you more clearence.

As far as the handles you just have to go back and down and cut a little room for the handles. no big deal. Then cut the linkage rods to length (make sure they have a 90* bend in them at the end to slip into the pivot point.)

Jaded---You can just swap in the handles and call it good. the panels stick out where it meets the dash on the 4th gen. So when swapped into your third gen where the dash extends out to the door it will hit. Others have gotten around this by cutting the dash pad. WARNING read previous posts before cutting.

hey flamed....when i was swapping my dash in, we mocked up one of the 4th gen door panels to get the placement of the dash as centered as possible....When we mocked it up, we just clipped the door panel to the top of the window sill at the top, and pushed her on down, (getting rid of the clips on the back of course, and then cuttin the extra from the back of the door panel (rear of the panel) to get the door to close...so did you just drill a hole in the frame to get something to screw into? just curious as to your process before i go cuttin up my panels...thanx, urs looks great by the way.

Yea I just drilled what ever hole I needed to screw into. I didnt drill any holes into the door panel itself. I just used all the factory mounting spots and drill the hole into the door its self.

i love how you cut the top off. not the convertable part, but where it looks like there should be a glass top. how did you do that and keep structual integrity? was the car a t top before or a hard top?
