I have 2 spare hoods laying around the garage. One is a cervini and the other is a glass 83Z hood. My plan is to take one of the hoods and modify the look. Im thinking if I do the 83 hood I could slice the center section, raise it up 2" and extend the length so it looks normal, then cut the center of the center section I just cut up and put the reverse cown where the factory scoops are so that they would be in the reverse cowl. Or I could just cut up the cervini hoods center section and put the reverse cowl in it. Thoughts?

I think the hood would get your drag number higher, thus increasing your drag, but your engine will get more cool air.
Now you have to think of how to close up that scoop, or put in some kind of berrier, so you don't suck up animals, rodents and such

I have a fake Pro/am cowl hood. I am actually thinking of taking it off, cutting the air cleaner area off the hood and making an outlet for the air to get scooped in.

We'll see how that works.

Well I decided to do the 83 hood. I am starting tonight. I will post picks of the build after I get started cutting.

I've seen Revlimit make one with the steel hood. He just cut it and bent it in then worked the edges. Looked pretty good. Dunno about doing it to a glass hood, fiberglass dosnt like to bend if its brittle. I cut out the vents in my 82/83 hood, looks cool but when it rains water runs down the plennum and either lands on the sensors in the front or dizzy on the back so thats not too cool.

now, the next step is to give me the cervini hood

here is my hood, its 2 1/2 on the sides and 3 in the middle. The back has the overhang added from another camaro hood, I just welded it on the back.

As you can see I put a 1" cowl in the middle of the hood and 3/4" at the top.

Now that the easy part is done, it's time to start the crap work. I will be thinking about making more if this turns out good. We'll see? Everything will depend on how it looks once painted. You can't get the feel for it until you see the curves with the paint on.

doenst mustang 00-03 have a hood similiar to the hood your making? i thought i saw one on there the other day in my home town. i could be wrong. it hink its just in the opposite direction.

I believe your talking about the 02-04 cobra hoods...

The inverted cowl hoods were on the blown dohc'ed cobras... watch out for those.

They do look really cool...

They are on the plain jane v6 mustangs as well. If one were to build the opening to that size, they could just buy the grille from a dealer instead of trying to make one.

No not those, that is the same idea but much milder then what im thinking about.

Edit: the hood im thinking of must have been aftermarket, similar to the cobra R hood in that it has a "power bulge"(centered on the hood instead of to the side like a t/a) and yet it led into an inverted cowl shape on the leading edge of the bulge..."

Awesome looking hood that a friend of mine in high school had on his 2003 Cobra i assumed it was a limited year factory piece but i have not been able to find a pick of it online so maybe not

Any updates?

Well I got a little side tracked. Nothing new yet but I am on vaction next week and will start working on it again. My car got hit in the front that changed a few goals. I know have a supercharger on order Now the inverted caw is be rethought. I got to many waves on the invert and it's driving me crazy, so I decided that now I am going to use plexi glass for the middle section and leave it clear so you can see through. It should show the tpi itself and hopfully the supercharger. This is the new plan. I think if I can pull it off this will be very awesome.

The hood should be done tomorrow with the exception of paint. To cold! It will end up being a reverse open as well as a inverted cowl. This was the set up I used many years ago and now I am moving it to the new car. I will post more picks tomorrow. Just doing so mud work.

Does the car in the pic have an engine? What type of induction? If TPI, how well does it clear the throttle body and is there enough room to run a filter????

No I skipped the plexi. Couldn't figure out how tp mold the 2 together so I fixed what I had. It's turning out very well.
I have only test fit it once but it was sitting just like you see it but it all looked to fit well. I have a KN filter on it and it looks like their should be no problems. The invert drops about one inch behind the radiator. I will take picks tomorrow when I get it on.

Not on the car yet but here are a couple of almost done pics. Hopefully tomorrow, if I don't continue to pick it to death!

Well it done enough until spring. Still a good bit of primingand sanding come spring but for now I'm done. This hood looks great in all the photos and while it's on the bench, but once I put it on the car I don't know if I like it? Even in the photos of it on the car it looks good but in person I don't think it looks as good. Maybe I need to get used to it but if not come spring going back to the stock 92 hood.

Well, that looks awesome, litterally....i love it. I'm planning on having an extractor hood made up for my bird, i'll either be copying the 93-97 styled hoods, or, the firehawk hood, more likely the latter, as it'll be a little more smooth.

On the mustang style you're thinking, the cobra used a hood that i believe you're talking about. It's wider than that one, and a little more deep also, also believe it had the straight piece goingthroughout the middle (flat part)...

looks very nice, good work. you say it's a 1" cowl.. is that where you cut it on the cowl or just started where you did and built it up to 1". the version i'm working on it's roughly 1 1/2" at the cowl so it's slightly closer to the windshield.

Accually it's one inch at the opening of the invert and about 3/4" at the cowl, so I lost about 1 to 1 1/2" of under hood clearance with the invert by the raidiator.

Looks good. Excellent craftsmanship! I think the only way it could look better is if it was done to a stock hood with a the inverse cowl wider.

If you were to try again maybe id say widen the cowl so it starts at the stock lines in the hood. (i hope that makes sense) That way it would accentuate the factory body lines and you could make the opening a little wider...
