I've got an 85 Camaro w/the idiot light cluster(star wars cluster) with an 85 mph speedo. I've got another cluster out of an 88 camaro w/115mph speedo, factory tach, fuel, temp and volt gauges. Will they bolt right up? I know the clusters just sorta fit into plugs on the dash(from when I took the cluster out of the 88) when you put them in, is my 85 the same way? In my 85 I've also got an aftermarket tach. The idiot lights aren't hooked up and there is a temperature/oil pressure pod under the dash that is hooked up instead of the lights. If this will fit right in will I have to move any of the wires from the aftermarket pod back up to the cluster for the temp gauge or volt gauge to work or will those wires already be ran? Will I have any problems with the 115mph cluster or not? Truthfully I can live with the cluster I have now, but it would be nice to have everything all together so I could get rid of the pods. The main reason I want to do this is because my aftermarket tach doesn't always work right and it would look neater I think if it were all in one cluster. I searched but most of what I came up with was either for the 145mph cluster or for T/As.

I would be almost certain that your current speedometer is electronic as opposed to the mechanical version that they used from '82-'89. You would need a speedometer cable to make the '88 cluster work. And the dash mount area is too different to simply bolt in. A cluster from a '90-'92 would be a better option since it has the electronic speedometer. A complete dash from a '90-'92 would be a bolt in. Although you would have to re-pin all of the connectors most likely. Then you have to deal with the radio difference and climate control and even the steering column difference with the turn signal lever.

When I'm going slow my speedo bounces quite a bit, I just assumed that it was mechanical because of that. I wouldn't think an electronic speedo would do that.

Your car is NOT a Berlinetta. It might say "Berlinetta" on the licence plate frame - but it's not a Berlinetta if you have a needle speedo; And if it's got a needle speedo than its a mechanical speedo.

Look at your VIN number:

Berlinetta VIN = 1G1F 'S'
All other Camaro VINs = 1G1F 'P'


The "Star Wars" interior included a DIGITAL speedometer cluster.

you may further clear up some confusion if you post a pic of your current dash. sounds to me the way you describe it you have the 85mph cluster on eh left with the large fuel gauge on the right? and the 3 dummy lights in the center? if thats what you have, then yes you can install the 115 cluster in its place. you will just have to wire up the oil press and temp gauge, possibly have to run a tach wire.

Wasn't the first year Berlinetta without the star wars gauges? Pretty sure they were mechanical.
