I got a 89 firebird w/t-top and i got leaks problems is there any way to repair this without changing the whole rubber kit ? It leaks also by the rear hatch and the 2 front wings .
You can adjust your t-tops. If you remove them, there should be 2 screws that hold on the black A-pillar cover. Underneath is the "female" t-top clip. Simply adjust by loosening them and moving it up or down. Run a garden hose over the that area and adjust if needed.
As for the hatch, mine does that too and I have no idea why.
Ahh yes t-top leaks...mine always have leaked. I put brand new seals in it after painstakingly removing all the rust under the old ones and sealing up all the metal and they still leak! My problem seems to be where the ttop glass meets the metal outer frame, but not sure since it drips in all 4 corners. My rear hatch leaks as well on the passanger side rear with a new seal....it did not leak with the old seal..I should have left the old seal in there.
ha, mine leak in all 4 corners too, its just wonderful when u have a wet lap, ya i tried even sealing the t-top straight down to the rubber, and that helped it a little but after a couple of weeks it became worse then ever. good luck trying to fix yours, honestly i have no sugestions, i wish i did
Mine leaked out of the corners too. I found that where the factory sealed the metal part to the glass part was not completly sealed. I just took off the plastic cover, removed the lock down part and used gasket maket to reseal it. Haven't had a leak since doning this. Both side are now leak free.
The rear hatch leaked by the 3rd brake light and it was from some body ran the screws to the upper trim piece out through the car under the glass.
Could you please describe how you sealed the corners in more detail??
I think I have the problem with my tops leaking in the corners. If I flex the top on the corners I can see it separate from the glass.
I've removed the plastic covers. Then there were a couple screws holding down the molding. I removed the screws, but didn't remove the seal. I was afraid I might damage it. Am I supposed to remove the molding seal to get there?
What did you use to seal it RTV Black?
Also, how do I remove the rubber splash seal that sticks out from the top? It appears that this mounts somehow underneath the main seal.
Thanks.

If you pull the seal out you will find 3 or 4 srews and that's what holds the plastic over lap in place and this also covers the two boldts for the locking part.
I know a lady that owns an 85 IROC in immaculate condition with around 30,000 actual miles. She says her t-top has leaked since she bought the car new. She had the rubber all replaced at least once and it still leaks, so I don't know how anything can be a permanent fix.
Not to hijack a thread or anything, but does anyone know why I get water in my car coming from under the headliner by that long trim peice between the rear of the t-tops and the hatch (the one that holds the rear of the headliner in place)? Both my RS and TA both have this problem.
I know exaclty what you are talking about now. I tried to seal them by putting flowable silicone in from the top. If it doesn't work, I'll really tear them all the way down next time and do what you did.

This area: (USA-1's car)
I know exactly what your talking about. both my 84's did that and I figured it out! Water was getting in through the bolt holes where my hatch bolts to the body, and as I turn corners in the rain it made a nice flowing river in there and spilled out each end. If it was sitting still, Id have a soaked headliner and back seats. What I did was to remove the hatch and bolts and the rear headliner trim peice and RTV Black the heck out of the holes and around the bolts...and it fixed that problem. Now if I could just get my T-tops to stop leaking!
Yesterday i thought i solve my t-top problem...in front of the driver side t-top window theres a tunnel that leads the water down on the side window . Then i looked at the t-top and i saw that the former owner had put glue right at the place where water drops on the side window . I threw it away and it solve my problem for 1 day of rain the interior stayed dry all day . But the following day it was raining really strong and it started leaking just a little .

I have an 87 t-top car and the leaking drives me absolutely insane!! It is a work and progress and I don't even wanna think about re-doing the interior until this leaking situation is resolved. Its almost got me convinced to scrap this one and start over on a hard top car :-(...if anyone has any solutions to the t-top problem please post!!

they leak mostly up front where the top meets the A-pillar...and somehow water is getting down past t-bar and leaking down through the holes of the body into the car...also is there anyway to close up the gap between the back of the window and body? Don't really see how that ever really could have sealed up lol...there is like an 1/8 to 1/4'' gap between the glass and the weatherstripping

it seems to me that your weatherstrip adhessive has failed and has found any entry point into the cabin of car that it could find. it should be reglued. what condition is your weatherstrip?
your hatch must be misaligned. do you have any pictures of this?
nope no pics as of yet...I might be able to get out and take some pics tomorrow....weatherstrip is in decent condition...probably could use some new ones...don't really have 300 bones sitting around right now to get a new set tho lol
