Yes, some paint stores have a camera that should find the color, and will actually spit out a formula...which will help for those custom mixes...but they are few and far between as they are expensive.
PPG's is called "PROPHET"... (Or PROFIT), Dupont's new claim to fame is the "VIN-dicator" (They actually are trying to take a snapshot of the car as it rolls off the assembly line which will enter the exact color variant for the specific vehicle in question. So in theory, as any given shop brings a new vehicle in to paint...they enter the VIN and...voila' you have as close a matching formula possible.)
